“It’s about time we find you a new man since you’ll be single again in a couple of days, Tess.” Ruby pointed out as we sat down on bar chairs, sipping on our margarita, well, I was enjoying my chardonnay.
“Ruby, are we here to talk about my love life? I don’t think I can welcome someone in near future. I have priorities and right now, finding myself is what I am thinking about. Love isn’t in the top order of my bucket list.” I replied rolling eyes.
“Come on, Tessa. You’re not even twenty–five. Just look at yourself. All the male and even female eyes are on you. Please, start valuing yourself.‘ Ruby said and chugged down her drink.
I always had worse alcohol tolerance level and in just two drinks, I began to feel tipsy.
“Ladies, are you here to drink like oldies. You can enjoy the evening.” Adrian, who came with us to meet his business friends in the VIP lounge, joined us.
“I don’t think I can stand properly. I would rather enjoy my drink ” I refused to leave because I was paranoid.
Although, it was a club for elites, yet you couldn’t judge someone’s character by their wealthy status. There could be people with bad intentions.
I was tired of having been told what to do. After my parents‘ death, my uncle controlled my life and then I gave my life’s control in Logan’s hands.
“I am going to dance. James is here.” Ruby plopped down and pointed her finger at a man in an expensive suit, I didn’t have to guess, he was her boyfriend.
The loud, pulsating beats of music made me forget my life’s predicament temporarily. The cheers and sways of happiness on couples‘ faces made me smile.
“A pretty girl shouldn’t sit alone and miss the chance to be happy. I see you’re avoiding me, Tess.” Adrian said and thus I realized that I totally forgot about him.
“It’s been five years since I last went to a club and I am sorry, I wasn’t ignoring you.” I said.
A smile kissed on the corner of his lips.
“We can dance if you want. I promise I won’t let you fall.” He asked me in the same soft tone.
Though, it was a simple statement, I had a distant feeling that he was flirting with me and I didn’t want to complicate our equation.
“Or we can simply enjoy a shot together and save dance for next time.” I proposed rather than declining him directly.
“Agin for the lady and a neat bourbon for me.” He signalled the bartender and our drinks were served.
“Cheers to your innings.” He clicked our glasses.
My throat burned with new taste but I really liked how it numbed my brain cells for a moment. I felt lighter.
“Alcohol isn’t your best mate, I guess.” He joked with a soft laugh.
“Yes, I don’t drink often and I think it’s better because I can’t get a hold of myself.” I replied.
“What have you thought about your life after the divorce? I am not asking about job or finding new place?” He suddenly questioned forcing me to look into those mystical hazel eyes as he sipped his drink.
“If you want to ask whether I am ready to embark on a new relationship path then I am not. I’d rather stay single and focus on other goals.” I told him the decision I made and reminded myself every single day.

Secondly, I didn’t want him to grow hopes of a possible hook up if he had romantic feelings for me.
If he had, I hoped I was wrong because I cherished our friendship.
“Very well, cheers to your upcoming freedom.” He raised a toast.
“We can escape our fears sometimes.” He said and before I could process the meaning, he took my hand and led me to the dance floor.
