“Dad, please, don’t talk much. You aren’t taking your health seriously.” I reprimanded my father–in–law politely who was acting like he was fine.
“Tessa, this hospital and sticking to this bed make me feel sicker than I really am. Please, of all the people you should understand me. You and Lucas are my favourites in our family.” Kevin said.
My heart clenched when I saw hope in his eyes that everything would get better with time.
“Take rest now. I am going home but I’ll come tomorrow with home cooked food.” I said preparing to leave.
“Where’s Logan? He hasn’t come to see me since the morning.” He asked about Logan.
“He’s very busy with work since you’re also absent from office but he’ll come here once he gets free. You know he’s more worried than any of us.” I replied.
He nodded in understatement. I made my way out of the hospital to pick Lucas. We had our gala the next day.
Honestly, I had no idea about him. Last night, when he came home, his behaviour was odd. He directly went to his room and in
the morning, he tried to avoid me like I didn’t exist for him.
Not that I was complaining but in last few days and the night we spent together, there was a shift in him.
He never behaved like this before.
I picked Luc all and re

to win with you, Mommy.” He grinned widely.
our victory is my victory, Lukey. Now, finish your treat so we can go home. You need rest before tomorrow’s competition.” I pointed on his leftover ice–cream.
I paid the bill and walked out of the café holding Lucas‘ hand.
“Tessa?”
My attention shifted from Lucas to Adrian who was standing on a few meters‘ distance from me.
I hadn’t contacted him after the club night.
“Hey, Adrian.” I forced a smile because I clearly remembered that Logan disliked our closeness even just as friends.
“Hey, buddy. I am Adrian, your mom’s friend.” Adrian, who was famous for charming people from every age group bent a little to greet Lucas who was shy and tried to hide behind him.
“Lucas, say hi to him.” I encouraged him.
“Hello, Mr. Adrian.” Lucas said in a low voice, his grip tightened on my hand.
“You’re a sweet boy just like you Mom.” Adrian complimented him and then he looked at me.

I was nervous because we were on a crowdy market place where anyone could easily see us together and jump on baseless conclusions.
“How are you, Tess? I am sorry, the evening didn’t go as we planned and I hadn’t had the time to call you. Ruby is also feeling sorry.” He asked me softly.
“I am fine, Adrian. I am sorry but we can’t talk here.” I looked around and he understood my indirect way of telling him that it wasn’t an ideal place.
“I’ll call you in the evening. Please, answer the call.” He said and then passed a smile to Lucas before heading inside the ice- cream parlour.
