I was resting in my study room while reviewing a deal’s legal documents to see if everything was good to go but my mind kept drifting to my harsh argument with Tessa.

Well, it wasn’t exactly an

argument but her outburst. She didn’t want me in her life.

No matter how much I tried to win her trust but she still saw me as the man who was dominant and was trying to

abduct her freedom but it wasn’t true.

I never tried to control her life. I wish she could see that I felt jealous of those men who tried to get close to her and Adrian Mcnight was the one. I couldn’t ignore his advances towards her.

I couldn’t see them together because in every way, he was a better person for her, both in attitude and in actions.

He had known her before I came into her life. She was happier with him than she was ever with me.

Her softness towards him also made me feel insecure.

I was engrossed in my sullen thoughts when my phone buzzed and it showed an unknown number.

Who could call me on my private number? However, I answered the call.

“Logan Wilferd speaking, who is this?” I asked in a monotone.

“Logan, it’s me, Adrian.”

I heard the voice of the last person I wanted to see.

“Why the hell are you calling me and where did you get my number?” I almost yelled at him.

“I am at the St. Sally’s Hospital. Tessa is hospitalized. Can you come over here now?”

His words caused my heart to stop beating for a nano second.

I felt like someone had poured icy cold water over my head. I sprung up from my seat.

“I am coming.”

Telling Kelly to take care of Lucas, I practically ran to the hospital. My heart was beating wildly and all kind of bad thoughts conjured my mind. I didn’t remember when the last time I felt this much scared.

I covered a forty minutes‘ drive in twenty minutes and after asking on reception about Tessa, I rushed to the floor where my wife was admitted.

I found Adrian standing in the corridor. He was talking to Tessa‘ doctor.

“How is Tessa? What happened to her, doctor?” I ignored Adrian completely and asked the doctor.

I wasn’t ready to hear a bad news.

“Tessa got an internal injury in her womb as her stomach hit something hard. We have stopped the bleeding but her condition isn’t good, Mr. Wilferd.” The doctor told me in a serious tone.

I was pale with fear.

“Will she be okay, doctor?” I asked, my voice almost a whisper.

“The treatment will be continued longer than we expected because the new injury might cause infection which could turn into serious problem. She’ll be hospitalized for a few days because we don’t want to take any risk and after that I advise you to take proper care of her.”

“Doctor, please, do your best, give her the best possible treatment without caring for the bills but save her life.” I requested her in a choked voice.

“Don’t worry, Mr. Wilferd, we’re doing our best but you should also take her responsibility. It wouldn’t have happened if she wasn’t living alone. She fell and hit a hard object. What if she didn’t get the chance to call Mr. Mcnight?”

I was ashamed because she was speaking a bitter truth.

“I’ll make sure that she’ll stay under good care, Doctor. Can I go and see her now?” I asked.

“Sure, but first we need to sanitize you because we can’t risk any kind of infection.” She permitted me to see

Tessa.

I was sanitized first and given a robe to wear before entering into Tessa’s ward. She was laying on the bed with her eyes closed. Her physical pain reflected on her face.

“Tessa…”

I called out her name softly and she slowly opened her eyes.

My heart pained to see how dull and red her eyes were.

I took slow steps towards her bed. I was afraid she might feel depressed after seeing me.

She didn’t speak to me.

“How are you?” I asked, my voice barely audible because I felt ashamed.
