Tessa
“I am sorry, Dad called me a couple of hours ago to invite us for dinner.” Logan broke the heavy silence inside the car as we drove to his parents‘ hou
I was looking out of the window to avoid any kind of interaction with him.
I treated him with silence because it was not something new. We had to have dinner with his family twice or thrice in a month. Except his father, his mother and sister weren’t fond of having me with them but they had to tolerate my presence.
“Is it necessary to take Lucas with you? Tomorrow, we planned to go to the beach?” I finally broke the ice between us.
Logan was already looking at me.
“Raelynn wants to spend time with him. You need to understand that it’s important for her to bond with her child. Just imagine, how Lucas would live after our divorce. We need to prepare him and also allow him to get close to his mother.”
Logan spoke with logic. As much as it pained me to accept that I wasn’t the real mother but accepting the truth was still harder.
“Just make sure that he doesn’t feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed around her. She needs to give him space and take one step at a time.” I managed to speak only these words.
“Don’t worry, he’ll be fine.” He said and it was the end of our conversation for the rest of the ride.
Upon reaching at their old mansion, I spotted his mother, sister and father sitting in the living room and I knew what was waiting for me.
“If Kevin hasn’t invited you, I am sure you would never bother to pay us a visit, Tessa. How can you be so full of yourself? Well, I have least expectations from you. I’ll be glad if you try to become a good wife for my son one day.” Lillia, Logan’s mother taunted me.
Her remarks were always demeaning but I always wore a fake smile to counter it with more irritation.
“Good evening, Mother and Father. I am sorry, I am failing to your expectations.” I said with a formal smile ignoring her cutting remarks.
“It’s okay, dear. I am proud of you. What you have done in last three years as Logan’s wife and Lucas‘ mother, I know my decision wasn’t wrong. You were a talented artist and your sacrifice saved my son’s. happiness.” My father–in–law praised me and it wasn’t taken well by the two women.
Lillia scoffed while Lia rolled her eyes,
“Dad, you can slip easily. She hasn’t done something extraordinary. Just look at her, what is the use of a talent that when she’s just an ordinary housewife.” Lia mocked me. She enjoyed picking on me.

Her words stung but it was true. I let my talent go in waste.
“Lia, speak carefully. Tessa declined most of the job offers because then she had to move to New York and she didn’t want to leave Lucas behind.” Logan spoke before I could react.
This time, not only his mother and sister but is also shocked because he took my side.
“Logan, don’t forget that her uncle charged us for this marriage and we paid a huge sum in exchange for this blasphemous match. She and the other Cowper girl are your doom.” Lillia sneered, her eyes shot daggers at me.
“Lillia, you can leave if you can’t stay quiet. If Tessa isn’t responding to your humiliating remarks, it doesn’t mean I’ll sit and let you disrespect her in her own house.” Mr. Kevin Wilferd reprimanded his wife.
“Mom, since everyone is here. I need to tell you all about my decision.” Logan spoke and the air grew tense.
“I heard about the return of that girl, Logan and I don’t want to repeat this again,” Kevin cut him before he could express his wish to reunite with Raelynn.
One thing which was common between me and Raelynn that Wilferd family wasn’t fond of her either.
“Dad, I love her and I want to be with her.” Logan retaliated and I wanted the earth to open and swallow me alive.
