The colleagues didn’t pay much attention to the little incident and just kept gossiping.

“Didn’t Colton hate coming to the office? Even Mr. Robert tried to bribe or threaten him, but he still ended up becoming a food influencer,” one of them said.

“Who knows? Maybe he finally got his act together. After all, Mr. Robert only has one son, and the company will be his sooner or later. What’s he gonna do, say no?” another replied.

“Man, is this what rich people worry about? Having a company and not wanting to take it over? I’d kill for a company to inherit. Then I wouldn’t have to deal with this dead-end job,” someone else chimed in.

“But even if you inherit it, you still have to work, right?” another person pointed out.

“How could working for yourself and working for someone else feel the same?” someone retorted.

Juliette picked at her food, totally distracted.

Back in her office, she texted Colton: [I heard you’re joining the company?]

Colton replied right away: [Yeah, guess I’ll be counting on you to show me the ropes, Juliette.]

Juliette didn’t reply.

She almost asked Colton why he suddenly wanted to work at the company. Was it because of her? But she didn’t want to assume too much, so she decided not to ask.

This was the Morley family’s company anyway. If Colton wanted to show up, that was his call. It was none of her business.

Colton waited for a long time, but when Juliette didn’t reply, he felt a bit disappointed.

Later that afternoon, Juliette was delivering some documents to Robert’s office when he stopped her. “Juliette, starting tomorrow, you’ll be assisting our new general manager, Colton Morley. He’s my son.”

Juliette was caught completely off guard.

After a moment, she hesitated and asked, “Mr. Morley, could you maybe send someone else instead?”

Robert glanced at her. “Do you have any concerns? Relax, your pay stays the same.”

“No, I mean…” Juliette said quietly.

“Glad to hear it. You’re experienced, so I trust you’ll be a big help to Colton,” Robert said.

Juliette was mentally ranting to herself.

‘Honestly, Mr. Morley, you really shouldn’t trust me that much. I’m really not as innocent as you think. I’ve already slept with your precious son, Juliette thought.

She made one last desperate attempt. “But Mr. Morley, what about you? Who’s going to be helping you now?”

Robert smiled. “I’ve already given instructions. Someone will be taking over your position very soon.”

“That’s final. Colton’s office is on the sixteenth floor, so you’ll move your office downstairs tomorrow,” he added.

Juliette walked out of Robert’s office, her thoughts all over the place.

After work, Juliette crashed at Eloise’s for dinner and vented about everything.

“Eloise, do you think Colton did this on purpose?” Juliette asked.

Eloise grinned. “Clearly. A man who never set foot in the office suddenly turns up and insists on having you as his secretary. He is definitely not here to work.”

“So what am I supposed to do?” Juliette asked.

“Juliette, what are you so afraid of?”

Juliette said, feeling guilty, “I’m not scared.”

“Oh, please! Colton’s basically following you to work. Why don’t you just have a real conversation with him?” Eloise said.

Juliette buried her face in her hands. “If Mr. Morley ever finds out I’m getting involved with his son, he’ll fire me on the spot.”

“Come on, you never know. Maybe Mr. Morley wouldn’t even care,” Eloise teased.

“I’m not gonna start daydreaming. How many rich families are actually like the Pierce family and don’t care about status? Most of those wealthy families only pick daughters-in-law from their own social circle. Ordinary people like me are not even on their radar,” Juliette said.

Eloise sighed.

That was true.

She didn’t try to convince Juliette anymore.

“So, Juliette, what are you gonna do now?” Eloise asked.

Juliette sighed. “I’ll just wait and see what Colton’s really up to. The year’s almost over anyway. Once the new year hits, I’ll start looking for a new job.”

Juliette glanced at the time, grabbed her bag, and got up. “It’s getting late. I should get going”

Eloise walked her to the door.

Grayson was out for a work event tonight and hadn’t come home yet.

He was clearly doing it on purpose, getting close and flirting with her just to see her flustered.

Her self-control around him was practically zero.

‘How am I ever going to deal with him?’ Juliette wondered, feeling totally lost.

Juliette tried to keep her cool as she reasoned with him. “Mr. Morley, if I work in your office, people are definitely going to gossip. It could hurt your reputation, and if your father hears about it, that’s just asking for

trouble.”

Colton just grinned. “Why worry? It’s not like we’re doing anything shady.”

Juliette was speechless.

‘Seriously? We haven’t done anything?’ She scoffed inwardly.

‘So what about all those nights we spent tangled up in bed?’

“Mr. Morley…”

Colton interrupted with a smirk, “So it’s my first day, and you’re already showing me how things should be done? Maybe you should just take over my chair, Juliette.”

Juliette was at a loss for words.

With a resigned sigh, she lugged her things over to the desk facing his, quietly setting up her workspace without saying a word.

She tried her best to ignore the smoldering look Colton was giving her from the other side of the desk.

‘If he’s not worried, why should I be?’ Juliette thought, trying to hype herself up.

Her reputation didn’t matter nearly as much as the Morley family’s.

If Robert blew up at her, she could just hand in her resignation and walk away.

With a take-it-one-step-at-a-time mindset, Juliette accepted the job without much worry, including working in the same office as Colton.

Eloise was busy tending to her flowers in the sunroom when her phone rang.

She took off her gloves and pulled out her phone. When she saw it was Bobby calling, her heart sank.

“Hello, Bobby,” she greeted, keeping her voice steady.
