No matter how much Juliette tried to persuade her, Eloise refused to consider leaving Noah with Grayson. In truth, Eloise’s talk about finding someone new was just talk. She had no real interest in it.

Juliette could see that and eventually dropped the subject.

They were different. Juliette was thoroughly disillusioned and done with her past relationship. Eloise’s feelings for Grayson ran deep, bordering on an obsession. Her calm exterior hid a heart that hadn’t moved on.

Eloise’s phone buzzed. It was Beckett. She answered. “Mr. Hayes

However, an unfamiliar male voice came through the line. “Hello? Is this Mr. Hayes’s secretary? He’s had a bit too much to drink. Could you come pick him up? We’re at the Pinecrest Club

The Pinecrest Club was Ekloland’s most exclusive members-only establishment, the playground of the wealthy elite.

After hanging up, Eloise asked Juliette to take care of Noah.

“Go on, don’t worry about us. Just drive carefully,” Juliette assured her.

“Thanks.” Then, Eloise drove to the Pinecrest Club.

Knowing it was strictly for members, a status far beyond her means, she felt apprehensive. But a staff member who had called her was waiting at the entrance and escorted her inside.

As they ascended the grand staircase to the second floor, Eloise nearly collided with a group of men coming down. It was Grayson, flanked by two other handsome, well-dressed men.

Grayson stopped abruptly, his gaze darkening as it landed on her. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m here to pick someone up,” she replied, keeping her voice level.

Grayson pressed, “Who?”

At that moment, the staff member reappeared, supporting the visibly inebriated Beckett.

Beckett, who had dozed off and was now somewhat more lucid, spotted Eloise. A smile spread across his face as he stumbled over and slung an arm heavily around her shoulders. “Ms. Caldwell, you made it.”

Grayson’s expression turned thunderous. His eyes zeroed in on Beckett’s hand resting on Eloise’s shoulder with an intensity that seemed capable of slicing through bone.

Eloise hurriedly peeled Beckett’s arm off, instead taking hold of his elbow to support him. “Let’s get you home, Mr. Hayes.”

As they turned to leave, one of the men beside Grayson, Rhys, let out a derisive snort. “So this is the guy you’ve set your sights on. Ms. Caldwell?

“He’s got a few dollars. But compared to Grayson here, he’s small change. And let’s be real, a bastard son like him isn’t going to marry you. You’re probably wasting your time.”

Eloise froze, then slowly turned to face them. Rhys wore a sinir full of contempt.

Her eyes, however, went past him to Grayson. His face was like storm cloud, his eyes fixed on her with a cold, furious intensity that made her chest constrict painfully. She couldn’t find the words to defend herself.

Beckett, finally noticing the other group. straightened up slightly Mt. Pierce, fancy running into you here.”

Rhys, emboldened, added, “You should watch yourself, Mr. Hayes. This one’s got a reputation for having calculated interests.”

Before Rhys could say another word, Grayson lashed out, kicking him hard in the shin. “Shut your mouth,” Grayson growled, his voice low and dangerous. “No one asked for your commentary.”

Rhys winced, rubbing his leg, and wisely retreated behind Colton, who shot him a look that clearly said, “You had that coming.”

It was obvious, even to them, that Grayson still had strong feelings for Eloise. Whatever her past actions, it wasn’t their place to judge, especially not in front of him..

Grayson’s protective instincts, once triggered, were fierce.

Beckett looked momentarily taken aback by the exchange.

He glanced at Rhys, his tone turning defensive. “Ms. Caldwell is an excellent person and a valued employee. I’d appreciate it if you didn’t speak about her that way.”

He then turned and tried to put his arm around Eloise again. “Let’s go.”

Eloise, her mind reeling, moved to follow.

Suddenly, Beckett’s arm was wrenched away from her shoulder. There was a sickening crack, followed by his sharp gasp of pain. Grayson had grabbed his wrist and twisted it with brutal force.

Eloise whirled around to see Beckett’s face pale, beads of sweat breaking out on his forehead. She stared at Grayson in utter disbelief. “What are you doing?”

Grayson paid her no heed. He stepped closer to Beckett, his expression vicious. “Touch her again, and a broken wrist will be the least of your worries.”

“You’re insane,” Beckett managed to grit out through the pain.

A cold, almost feral smile twisted Grayson’s lips. “Maybe I am. I suggest you don’t test that theory.”

Beckett could only stare, speechless.

Grayson glanced at Colton. “Take him to a hospital.”

Both Colton and Rhys, thoroughly alarmed by Grayson’s uncharacteristic violence, quickly moved to support Beckett, practically dragging him away down the hall.

Eloise turned to leave, only to be hauled by Grayson into a private room. The room was dimly lit, heavy with the scent of expensive alcohol and leather.

Grayson pinned her against the door, his mouth crashing down on hers in a kiss that was all anger and raw possession. The taste of whisky was strong on his tongue. She realized he’d been rinking.

Eloise, overwhelmed and disgusted by the taste, began to struggle, but her protests were muffled against his lips.

One of his hands captured both of her wrists, easily lifting them above her head and holding them there as his body pressed her firmly against the door.

The combination of the forceful kiss and the lingering alcohol tggering her allergy made Eloise feel dizzy and increasingly

nauseous.

Sensing her distress, Grayson broke the kiss. Eloise’s legs buckled, and she started to slide down the door.

He caught her by the waist, hoisting her up, then swept her into his arms and carried her to a large leather sofa.

He set her down gently. Eloise doubled over, retching, the world spinning.

Grayson’s eyes darkened with a mix of concern and frustration. He remembered her allergy. He strode to a minibar, cracked open a bottle of water, and brought it to her.

Eloise took it with trembling hands, gulping down several mouthfuls. The cool water helped settle her stomach and clear her head slightly.

Grayson took the half-empty bottle from her, tilted his head back, and finished it in one long pull.

Eloise watched, stunned. ‘He just drank after me…

He crushed the empty plastic bottle in his fist with a sharp crackle and tossed it aside, the violent gesture mirroring the storm in his eyes.

Eloise shrank back, scrambling to get up. ‘He’s lost his mind tonight. Breaking Beckett’s wrist, attacking me like this. I need to get out of here.

The moment she sat up, his hand landed on her shoulder, pushing her back down onto the soft leather.

Eloise glared up at him, anger finally cutting through her fear. “What do you think you’re doing?”

“I want to do a lot of things to you,” Grayson admitted, his voice rough.
