Arthur lowered his gaze and offered a public apology, his voice steady but filled with regret.
Jennifer stood close by, her eyes fixed on Arthur as he bowed before Chloe. The simmering hatred in her gaze was barely concealed, a fierce fire burning beneath her composed exterior.
Her pride, which she had so carefully guarded, now lay in ruins beneath Chloe’s unyielding presence.
Chloe, however, remained completely unmoved by Arthur’s contrition. She didn’t even spare him a glance, her expression cold and detached.
Arthur stayed bent forward, holding his bow as a testament to his sincerity, desperate to prove the depth of his remorse.
But with no acknowledgment from Chloe, he found himself trapped in that awkward pose, the silence stretching unbearably between them.
For Arthur, this was undoubtedly the most mortifying moment of his tenure as president of Myers Group. Surrounded by witnesses, he had utterly lost face.
“Where will we be sitting?” Chloe asked Landon quietly.
“Right up front,” Landon replied, nodding toward the rows ahead.
“Then let’s not waste any time. Mr. Slade’s auction is about to begin,” Chloe said, turning to Joseph with a polite, inviting smile.
Joseph returned her smile warmly. “Please, everyone, take your seats. The auction is about to commence, and I’ve prepared some truly captivating items for you all.”
At Joseph’s words, the guests who had gathered for the earlier drama quickly dispersed to their assigned places. The women who had previously doubted Chloe now crowded around her, their skepticism replaced by admiration. They eagerly asked if her designs would be available in their preferred colors, their voices filled with excitement.
Chloe answered their questions with grace and poise, then smoothly made her way to her seat.
Landon caught Eugene’s eye and cleared his throat meaningfully.
He had arranged for Eugene to have a prime spot—something Eugene would surely appreciate.
The first row was centered around Joseph, with Eugene and Landon flanking him on either side. Nearby, Chloe and Selina sat on opposite ends—Chloe beside Eugene, Selina next to Landon. Behind them sat several influential members of Eldermar.
Eugene said nothing as he moved directly to his seat.
Joseph followed closely behind. As he passed Arthur, he paused briefly.
“Mr. Myers, passion and youth are admirable qualities,” Joseph said with a gentle smile, placing a reassuring hand on Arthur’s shoulder. “But maturity and steadiness in both word and deed are essential.”
Arthur remained frozen, his face flushed with embarrassment.
Today, his reputation as president of Myers Group lay in tatters.
Jennifer called again, her voice edged with urgency, but the silence remained.
She exchanged a meaningful glance with Madilyn, whose jaw tightened as she scanned the room. All the other guests had settled into their seats, chatting quietly—everyone except her oblivious son, frozen like a statue. Anger flared fiercely within her.
Chloe’s arrogant display had publicly humiliated them, and though Arthur was her husband, Chloe had shown him no mercy.
Madilyn vowed silently that she would settle this score with Chloe someday.
“Sit down now. How much longer do you intend to embarrass yourself?” Madilyn snapped, grabbing Arthur’s arm and pulling him toward their seats.
Of all the misfortune!
Their seats were in the second row, directly behind Joseph’s group in the front.
If Arthur simply lifted his head, he could hear every word exchanged between Chloe and Joseph.
For anyone wanting to get closer to Joseph, this would be a rare opportunity.
But for Arthur, it only deepened his shame.
