He Cheated I Rose Making Him Regret Everything (Chloe and Arthur) novel Chapter 243

**A Promise Hidden in the Quiet Rain by Adrian Hale**

**Chapter 243: The Trap Set for Chloe**

**218 Pearls**

“Eugene, you don’t truly know me yet. There may come a day when you uncover the truth about who I am—and when that happens, you might regret everything that’s transpired between us.” Chloe spoke softly, her voice a gentle whisper as she moved his hand away from her. With a tender grip, she intertwined her fingers with his, seeking connection despite the weight of her words. “I’ve just ended a relationship that felt utterly pointless, and honestly, I’m not in a place to start something new just yet.”

“I’ll wait for you, Chloe. No matter how long it takes,” he replied earnestly, his gaze unwavering.

A faint smile flickered across Chloe’s lips, a mixture of appreciation and sorrow. “You should get some rest. I have some matters to attend to.” With care, she placed his hand back on the bed, as if to anchor him to the present, preventing him from rising too soon.

“Before you think about anyone else, focus on getting better first.” With those parting words, she turned and exited the room, leaving Eugene to ponder her thoughts.

Leaning against the headboard, Eugene watched her retreating figure, a swirl of emotions churning within him.

As Chloe opened the door, she nearly collided with Landon, who had been eavesdropping just outside. He stumbled forward, quickly regaining his composure, and glanced past her into the room.

“The medicine… did it work?” he inquired, his voice tinged with concern, his eyes scanning her expression for any signs of hope or despair.

“He’s awake. He took the medicine himself,” Chloe informed him, her tone clipped yet informative. “The rest is up to you. I need to go now.” With that, she slipped past Landon, who stood frozen in disbelief.

“Awake?” Landon echoed, his heart racing. In a flash, he dashed into the room, urgency propelling him forward.

Upon seeing Eugene lying there, color returning to his face, Landon finally let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding.

“You scared me to death, you know that? Can I file for emotional distress damages?” Landon complained, his voice a mix of relief and frustration as he approached Eugene’s bedside. “If something had really happened to you, how are the rest of us supposed to cope?”

Eugene’s lips curled into a faint smile, a hint of mischief dancing in his eyes. “Don’t worry about me; I’m not going anywhere.”

“You—” Landon was about to launch into another tirade when he caught sight of Eugene’s annoyingly bright smile.

Poisoned, nearly on the brink of death, and yet here he was, smiling as if the sun itself had risen just for him.

“Are you even human?” Landon teased, shaking his head in disbelief.

“Eugene, did you take the medicine yourself, or did Chloe have to feed you?” Landon probed, his curiosity piqued, his instincts for gossip igniting.

Oralia had experienced the accidents—the horse had gone wild, and the snake had appeared. It was a well-crafted trap, and the moment Chloe stepped in to help, she had walked straight into Carolyn’s snare.

“Do you have all the evidence ready?” Eugene asked, a steely determination in his voice.

“Absolutely. I oversaw everything myself. You’ll be satisfied,” Landon assured him, his excitement palpable. “Should we make the evidence public? Get her removed from the crew? Perhaps have Kellian Media freeze her out?”

“Send everything to Chloe. Let her decide what steps to take.” A slow, knowing smile spread across Eugene’s lips. “You just need to fan the flames and turn up the heat a little.”

Landon couldn’t help but think that Eugene was becoming deeply entangled in this emotional mess.

“Are you sure about this? You seem like a completely different person all of a sudden,” he remarked, shivering slightly. Eugene was typically so aloof, but whenever Chloe was involved, a warmth seemed to envelop him.

“Have I really changed?” Eugene mused, leaning back against the headboard, his gaze drifting to the ceiling as if searching for answers. “Liking someone means—beyond just being able to give her your whole heart—you’ve got to embrace what she loves and despise what she hates.”

“I never knew you could feel this intensely. Did Chloe hear you say that? Was she affected?” Landon shot back, his tone half-joking, half-serious. “That woman is dangerous.”

“How could I ever settle for merely being strangers with someone I felt such a connection to the moment I laid eyes on her?” Eugene replied, his voice a mixture of resolve and vulnerability.
