Chapter 39
As soon as he said those words, it was as if I suddenly understood everything.
All the strangeness of the situation now had an explanation.
Although I attributed it all to fate.
But in Calvin’s eyes, my deafness was Georgia’s fault.
So, was everything he did still out of guilt?
I let out a bitter laugh, but inside, I wasn’t as disappointed or upset as I had imagined.
Maybe it’s because of what I went through in my previous life–my heart had long since grown numb.
Georgia, however, clearly didn’t think it was her fault. She stiffened her neck and retorted, “What does it have to do with me? It was a gas leak, just an accident!”
I looked at her in disappointment, a wave of helplessness washing over me.
At some point, Reginald had come out. He stood by my side, took my wrist, and said, “Come on, dinner’s ready. Let’s eat.”
His voice sounded very calm, but I could sense the seething anger simmering beneath the surface.
I looked up at Reginald’s sharply defined profile.
I wondered to myself, when did he become so mature over these past few years?
The Reginald of today no longer had the reckless impulsiveness of his youth; he seemed utterly reliable now.
I knew that, given his temperament, it must have taken a lot of effort to suppress his anger.
But he still managed to hold it back.
Reginald turned to Georgia, his voice suddenly cold and deep: “If you can’t keep your mouth shut, then get out.”
Georgia was startled, instantly silenced.

At this point, she didn’t have the face to stay any longer. With an ugly expression, she grabbed her bag and stormed out.
She slammed my door shut with such force that the sound was deafening.
Calvin turned back, his eyes fixed on Reginald’s hand gripping my wrist, his expression unpleasant.
I followed his gaze.
Realizing what was happening, I gently tried to pull my hand away.
A look of disappointment flashed in Reginald’s eyes, but in the next moment, I reached out and took his hand.
The man suddenly turned to look at me, his eyes full of surprise and delight.
I squeezed his hand lightly.
Looking at Calvin, I saw his face turn ashen. He untied his apron, said nothing, and left my home as well.
After he left, I instantly breathed a sigh of relief and was about to let go of Reginald’s hand.
But this time, I couldn’t break free no matter what.
He was like a golden retriever that had bitten into a bone, his eyes bright and earnest as he looked at me, the corners of his mouth lifting: “Since you’ve taken my hand, don’t even think about letting go.”
Reginald tightened his grip on my hand: “I don’t care why you took my hand, but you know I won’t let any opportunity slip by.”
Looking at his determined expression, I couldn’t help but smile helplessly: “But how are we supposed to eat if we’re holding hands?”
As I spoke, my gaze drifted to the table full of delicious dishes. I said, “I’m starving.”
Reginald still didn’t let go, but he pulled me to sit down at the dining table.
He picked up a fork, his face full of anticipation: “What do you want to eat? I’ll feed you!”
I rolled my eyes speechlessly, forcibly pulled my hand free, and poked his forehead: “Alright, enough, let’s eat.”
Even so, the smile on Reginald’s lips never faded for a moment.

I shook my head, ignored his silly look, and started eating.
After the meal, he naturally began clearing the dishes.
Of course, I couldn’t let a guest both cook and wash the dishes, so I helped him clean up.
Suddenly, Reginald asked, “Can I stay at your place?”
