Brooks jerked upright in anger, his lips trembling. "Juniper, I know you've never liked Nadine, and you've never liked me either. Just because we barely finished high school, you look down on me. You think I'm completely worthless."
Juniper shifted her gaze away. Ever since Walter Lane had violently thrown up a few days ago, he had fallen into a deep coma.
She was utterly exhausted by this relentless family drama. "I'll take care of Dad's situation, but I am done cleaning up your messes. I told you Nadine is hiding something. If you refuse to listen, then suffer the consequences yourself. Did you call me here just to pay your medical bills? Do you all just view me as your personal ATM? You're right, Brooks—I do look down on you. You're a coward who refuses to take responsibility, letting a woman play you for a fool. I guarantee you're going to regret this."
Nadine was inherently selfish. Now that she knew Brooks was permanently disabled, there was no way she would willingly chain herself to a burden like him.
She had probably already lined up her next wealthy target, though Juniper couldn't figure out who the unfortunate man was yet.
But why would Nadine go to such extremes? Brooks was her husband, after all. The only logical explanation was that someone had bought her off.
Yet what was the endgame? Brooks was just an average guy.
Juniper frowned, her thoughts turning inward. Surely no one was orchestrating this entire conspiracy just to get to her.
She dialed Beatrice's number and asked for the exact location and room number of Nadine's hotel.
Assuming Juniper was going to apologize to Nadine, Beatrice eagerly blurted out all the details.
Next, Juniper called Yara Jenkins. It happened to be Yara's day off, and the moment she heard about the plan to confront Nadine, she immediately offered, "I'll go with you."
Yara pinned her phone between her ear and shoulder, her hands occupied with applying ointment to Harrison Holt's injuries.
Harrison had been discharged from the hospital, but his vision still hadn't returned.
