He assumed Nelson Saint would reply the moment the text went through.
But after a full ten minutes of waiting, their desserts had already arrived at the table, and his phone remained dead silent.
Julian Sterling frowned. What on earth was that man so worked up about now?
Meanwhile, the woman sitting next to him was staring intently at Juniper Lane. She didn't know what kind of relationship Juniper had with Julian, but since Julian had been the one to approach her, did this woman also have history with him?
Julian was the notorious playboy of the Sterling Family. Countless women threw themselves at him, desperate to secure resources or connections.
Even if they walked away empty-handed, spending a night with a man who looked like him was hardly a loss. She had finally managed to hook up with him during a commercial shoot today, only to bump into Juniper the moment they stepped out.
Her brow furrowed as she quietly calculated how much weight Juniper held in Julian's mind.
Juniper, however, simply stared down at her latte. "Aren't you a newlywed? Out on a date with someone else already?"
Julian hadn't expected her to stand up for Zara Zimmer. He looked mildly surprised. "You and Zara seem awfully close."
"So you do remember Zara. I assumed you'd already forgotten the name of the woman on your marriage certificate."
Juniper's tone was completely unfiltered. She even cast a wary, guarded look at the woman beside him.
The amusement slowly faded from Julian's eyes. He leaned back in his chair.
"Juniper, girls like you..."
He paused for a few seconds, seemingly searching for the right words.
"Do all you girls from the bottom of the barrel enjoy huddling together for warmth?"
The words had barely left his mouth when Dr. Alistair Vaughn chimed in. "You and Nelson really are two of a kind. You both speak and act with the exact same suffocating sense of entitlement."
Julian casually pulled the woman beside him into his arms. "I can't help it. It's a gift from my bloodline."
Disgusted, Juniper grabbed Alistair's arm. "Let's go sit somewhere else."
