The last trace of color drained completely from Beatrice's face. She turned to Juniper in sheer disbelief. "You... you're joking, right? How could Nadine..."
Juniper's lips curved into a faint, bitter smile. "If Brooks didn't have the proof, do you really think he'd be this angry? Mom, she sold your son's legs for fifty thousand dollars."
Beatrice's hands fell limp at her sides. She kept muttering, "Impossible, impossible..."
Nadine's eyes were rolling back into her head. She genuinely felt she was a second away from dying.
"Let her go," Juniper finally spoke. "If you keep choking her, you'll kill her. What happens to the baby then?"
Panting heavily, Brooks finally released his grip. Nadine immediately collapsed onto the floor.
Clutching her throat, her entire body went weak. For a terrifying moment, she had been certain she was going to die.
Pale and trembling, she looked up at Brooks, who was still seated in the wheelchair.
His eyes were filled with pure, unadulterated hatred. Juniper had already shown him the screenshots of the bank transfers. At first, he hadn't believed it, convinced Juniper was just trying to drive a wedge between them.
But then, entirely unprompted, Nadine had eagerly suggested dragging him to this location.
He had no choice but to believe it. He had no choice but to admit how utterly stupid he had been all these years.
He might have been useless, but he had worked his hardest to provide for this family.
His salary had never been high, but every single cent had gone straight to Nadine. He had never hidden a dime for himself!
When Nadine wanted to buy a house in the city, he swallowed his pride and took the money Juniper had sent their parents. When Nadine insisted the deed only have her name on it, he hadn't minded, figuring she was his wife and had suffered enough by marrying him.
He had never been calculating when it came to the family's assets.
Nadine hadn't worked a single day since marrying him.
When she sent him into that deathtrap, had she felt even a sliver of hesitation? They had known each other for so many years...
Brooks's eyes were bloodshot. He wanted nothing more than to drag Nadine to hell with him!
