Juniper frowned and slowly stood up, handing the remaining half of the dog food can to Alistair. "Could you finish feeding her? Just make sure she doesn't eat too much at once."
"Sure."
Alistair took the can and walked back over to the windows.
Juniper leveled a cold stare at Nelson. "What do you want?"
Nelson let out a bitter laugh, suddenly lunging forward, grabbing her by the arm, and crushing his lips against hers. "I want it right now."
A wave of pure revulsion crawled over Juniper's skin. She violently shoved him away. "I don't have time right now."
"Juniper, I make the rules of this transaction. You don't have the right to refuse, otherwise I'll pull the medical team right now."
He hadn't wanted to threaten her, but how dare she let Alistair waltz into her home so comfortably?
Two single adults alone together. God knows how far things had escalated between them behind closed doors.
His chest seized with an agonizing tightness as he lowered his voice. "I want it right now. Right here."
Juniper stared at him in utter silence. One second. Two seconds.
Then, she turned and walked over to Alistair. "I'll text you later about the hospital arrangements. Something came up, so I can't host you right now. I'm sorry."
Alistair slowly stood up. He could guess exactly what was happening, but showing any emotion right now would only humiliate Juniper further.
She looked incredibly unwell. The fragile look deep in her eyes was heartbreaking.
He instinctively reached out and gave her a reassuring pat on the head, but immediately felt a murderous glare lock onto his hand, looking as if it wanted to hack his arm off.
Alistair found it almost amusing. A faint smile touched his lips. "I'll come back another time."
"Okay," Juniper replied softly.
He walked toward the door. As he passed Nelson, he kept his voice low enough for only the two of them to hear. "Forcing yourself on her is the only move you have left, isn't it? You're just pushing her further away. Honestly, Nelson, you're pathetic."
A wave of blind fury erupted within Nelson. He threw a devastating punch straight at Alistair's face.
This wasn't the first time they had fought, and Alistair rarely bothered hitting back.
