Nelson had swallowed his pride and compromised time and time again, yet she still threw this icy attitude in his face. His patience instantly evaporated. "Don't forget your father is still in the hospital."
Holding Moonlight tightly, she stared him dead in the eye. "We have eight times left. So, do you want to do it right now?"
Her tone was completely dead. What was supposed to be a passionate, intimate act between lovers sounded like a mandatory chore from her lips.
Nelson's chest tightened with explosive anger. His Adam's apple bobbed as his gaze dropped instinctively to her neck, then drifted down to her waist.
He knew exactly how incredibly soft that waist felt under his grip.
Just the thought of it made his body react.
But he was also painfully aware of why she kept such a meticulous countdown—the second they hit zero, she was going to vanish without a backward glance.
Agitated and furious, he marched toward the door. "If you're that desperate, go find another guy. I'm not some toy you get to use whenever you feel like it."
He had barely stepped into the hallway when a thunderous slam echoed behind him. The door was shut without a second of hesitation.
It was as if she were terrified he'd change his mind.
Standing in the hall, Nelson let out a harsh, exaggerated scoff. Dead silence answered from inside.
His jaw clenched, and he stormed back down to his car.
Did she really think he cared that much?
He drove straight to the Saint family estate. The moment the car rolled to a stop, Josie bounded out onto the steps, waving frantically. "Daddy! Did you bring the stuff I wanted for my kitten?"
Her face lit up with excitement as she reached to open the trunk.
But it was locked. She looked up at Nelson in confusion.
He popped the trunk, only to realize everything inside was entirely meant for dogs.
Disappointment washed over Josie's face. She tugged at his pant leg. "Why is all this for puppies? Daddy, did you buy the wrong things without looking?"
Nelson frowned, patting her head gently. "I'll have Quinn fetch the right ones."
"Yay! Come on, Daddy, I'll take you inside to see Luna."
Lydia was standing nearby. The moment she saw the pile of dog supplies, the smile vanished from her face.
