He Gave Me Hearing, Then Taught Me What Silence Really Means novel Chapter 316

She ate three full bowls of food.

After dinner, Harrison Holt cleared the table, put on the apron, and washed the dishes, looking like the perfect househusband.

Feeling a bit guilty, Yara quickly offered to help. "Let me do that."

"Sit down, Yara. Didn't you have a lecture to watch? Consider this my rent. I'll handle the cooking from now on."

Yara then noticed that the entire apartment had been scrubbed spotless. There wasn't a speck of dust anywhere.

Harrison was like a magical domestic fairy, and his gentle, kind demeanor certainly fit the role.

She hesitated for a moment, then went to take a shower. Dressed in her soft, worn-in cotton pajamas, she curled up on the sofa and started her online medical lecture. She studied a wide range of subjects, mostly focusing on foreign medical terminology. Her English was strong, but there were so many highly specialized medical terms that she had to dedicate hours to memorizing them.

She rested her chin on her knees, completely absorbed, the glow of the laptop illuminating her face.

Harrison had already finished cleaning the kitchen. Through the slightly worn sliding glass door, he watched Yara. She had pulled her hair up loosely, a few stray strands falling around her face. She was staring at the screen with intense focus.

Harrison didn't step out right away. He stood there for a full minute, slowly leaning back against the refrigerator.

This woman tried so incredibly hard at everything she did, fighting with all her might to drag herself out of the mud.

That kind of relentless drive was somewhat irritating. It wasn't something he particularly liked.

He wanted a cigarette. He instinctively patted his pocket before remembering he hadn't smoked in a long time. Playing the role of the docile, helpless victim for so long had almost made him forget the taste of tobacco, and he frowned at the realization.

His phone buzzed. He answered it, making sure Yara couldn't hear him, and spoke softly. "Speak."

The moment that single word left his mouth, his entire aura shifted drastically.

Whoever was on the other end said something that made a dark, amused glint flash in his eyes as a smirk played on his lips.

Suddenly, the sliding door was pushed open. Yara stood there in her oversized pajamas, looking confused. "Are you still cleaning?"

Her footsteps had been so light he hadn't heard her approach.

Or perhaps he had unconsciously let his guard down.
