Alistair didn't touch his food either, instead shifting the conversation to Walter's condition. It was a topic Nelson knew absolutely nothing about, forcing him to endure the agonizing exclusion.
Juniper finally stood up, ready to leave. She had been at the hospital for over twenty-four hours.
Alistair stood up to leave with her.
Nelson didn't follow them out immediately. He stayed in the quiet room for a few minutes. He didn't care for Walter at all.
But he still summoned the specialists. "What's the situation?"
The doctors briefed him, and Nelson breathed a sigh of relief. As long as it wasn't critical, it was fine.
Juniper had a soft heart. She had once sworn she would escape this family and make something of herself.
He still remembered her crying while studying, promising she would never come back once she made it out.
So seeing her still hopelessly tethered to the Lane family filled him with a frustrating sense of disappointment.
Was she just actively looking for ways to torture herself? She was financially independent now; why couldn't she just cut ties entirely?
He couldn't comprehend it, but he knew she had just lost her mother and absolutely couldn't lose her father right now.
He gave the specialists a few strict orders. "Mr. Saint, rest assured, we are monitoring him around the clock. We won't let anything happen to Mr. Lane," one of them promised.
Nelson nodded. After the specialists left, he turned to leave as well, only to see Yvonne walking down the hall.
She had clearly known he was here and followed him.
She closed the door behind her, her eyes freezing over. "I wasn't planning on calling you out on this. I've tried to turn a blind eye to your little side projects, Nelson. Don't tell me you've actually caught feelings for her."
"I haven't," Nelson shot back instinctively. "Is there anything else?"
Yvonne noticed Walter's eyes flutter open before slowly closing again.
A vicious gleam flashed in her eyes. Nelson, with his back to the bed, completely missed it.
She sneered. "I'm willing to overlook your recent behavior. I understand how men operate. But I need you to promise me—once you're done playing with her, what happens next?"
There was absolutely no way he was bringing that trash into the Saint family.
"When I'm bored, I'll drop her. Don't you know me by now?"
Yvonne looked incredibly satisfied, noticing Walter's fingers curling into a fist, though the movement was pathetic and weak.
