A flicker of sympathy crossed Finn's eyes, but he ultimately just sat on the edge of the bed and pulled Lulu into a gentle embrace. "Just stay far away from her from now on."
Lulu was trembling violently. The entire situation felt surreal and deeply terrifying. If Finn truly loved her, how could he bear to see her lying in a hospital bed, nearly dead, and do absolutely nothing? Her fists clenched tight beneath the blankets. If Finn wouldn't seek justice for her, she would have to get it herself.
Taking a deep breath, she plastered on a mask of perfect compliance. "Okay."
"Good."
Back at the suburban manor.
Juniper tossed and turned, unable to sleep. She kept hearing faint, unsettling noises coming from outside.
She slipped out of bed and crept to the window. Sure enough, several dark figures were moving stealthily across the grounds.
She immediately dialed Jasmine's number.
No answer.
Panic set in. Was Jasmine already in danger? Mrs. Lawrence adored Lulu and harbored a deep-seated hatred for Jasmine. It made perfect sense that she would send a hit squad.
Juniper rushed out of her room and knocked frantically on Jasmine's door. The door wasn't latched and swung open at her touch.
She flicked on the light. The room was empty.
Heart pounding, she crept downstairs. The main hall was dimly lit, but the metallic, coppery stench of blood hit her like a physical blow.
