He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 1012

"Are you really just here for revenge on behalf of your brother?" Scarlett demanded, her voice dripping with ice. "Or did someone else put you up to this?"

Chase's smile turned feral. "It was for my brother. And for the money. Don't you know?"

Scarlett frowned. "Know what?"

"If you promise to let me walk—no cops, no pressing charges—I'll tell you a little secret about yourself," Chase sneered.

She studied him for a long moment. Everything about him radiated a slimy, unsettling energy. His skin had a sickly pallor, and his eyes darted around erratically. The Sheridan brothers truly were cut from the same rotten cloth.

She didn't have the time or the patience for his games. Grabbing him by the collar, she slammed him forcefully against the adjacent wall.

"Let's get one thing straight," she snapped, her voice deadly. "Firing a weapon in broad daylight in Country H is a major felony. Whether you talk or not, you're going to prison right next to your brother!"

Chase groaned, stars bursting in his vision. He hadn't expected this woman to be so ruthlessly strong.

"You think you've won, Scarlett?" he spat, completely losing his temper. "You're not going to live much longer anyway! Someone put a million-dollar bounty on your head on the black market! Even if you survived me today, they'll keep coming! You're a dead woman walking!"

Scarlett's breath hitched. A million-dollar bounty.

Her mind instantly raced to Kane Stetson. He was out of prison and had fled back to Myanor. He was the only one who would go to such extreme, obsessive lengths to see her destroyed.

She exchanged a dark look with Julian. The raw worry in his eyes mirrored her own.

"Aaron," Scarlett said, turning to her lead bodyguard, "call the police. Tell them exactly what happened. We have the security footage anyway. He did this in broad daylight—he needs to be locked up. And tell them we are pressing maximum charges. No mercy."

"Zachary?" she gasped. "Did you just say you're coming back too?"

"Yes."

"Oh my God, that's amazing! I'm going to tell Mom right now. She's been praying for this day for so long!"

Bursting with joy, Scarlett shoved the phone into Jacqueline's hands.

Jacqueline barely brought the phone to her ear before the tears started streaming down her face.

"Son?" she choked out, her voice trembling. "You're... you're finally coming home?"
