Zachary slipped back into the banquet hall, his expression unreadable.
Outside, Corinne squeezed Melanie's arm, giddy with excitement. "I can't believe Jacqueline's little pet is this easy. One tug and he swallowed the hook."
Melanie scoffed in disgust. "What did you expect? She's ancient. She can't afford top-tier loyalty. He's just a mercenary looking for the highest bidder."
Corinne smirked. "He knows how the game is played. Giving us his room number right away? He clearly sees Jacqueline as nothing but a walking ATM."
Melanie's eyes narrowed maliciously. "Exactly. Tonight, we'll break him in properly. We'll get him to work with us and bleed Jacqueline entirely dry."
"Brilliant!" Corinne practically squealed. "Come on, let's go home and get properly dressed for the occasion!"
Melanie nodded enthusiastically. The two women practically skipped out of the hotel, eagerly plotting out their twisted evening.

Inside the hall, Zachary took his seat at the head table.
Jacqueline had no idea what had just transpired outside. Though he looked perfectly composed, she felt a twinge of worry. "Son, why did you step out so suddenly?"
"It's nothing. Just had to take a call," Zachary replied smoothly.
