Gwen panicked, quickly pulling Sylvia into her arms and desperately trying to soothe her until her daughter finally caught her breath.
Yardley stood there utterly stunned, his body rigid.
His mother-in-law had beaten Sylvia? While Sylvia's son was in the hospital, Scarlett and her mother tracked her down just to assault her?
Were those two trying to turn the world upside down? What exactly were they trying to accomplish? Were they really trying to push Sylvia to the point of death?
A towering inferno of rage ignited in his chest. His blood boiled, and his already feverish mind felt dizzy with blinding fury.
He had actually been hoping for Jacqueline to return from her supposed vacation in Australia early.
He'd hoped that she would talk some sense into Scarlett, calm her down, and allow everyone to go back to living their lives in peace.
Instead, his mother-in-law had returned only to be even crazier, more vicious, and more unreasonable than his wife.
He couldn't let them get away with this anymore. If this continued, someone was going to get killed.
Yardley clenched his fists tightly. “Where did she attack you? I'm going to go get an explanation from her right now.”
Despite his dangerously calm tone, a deadly aura rolled off him.
Hearing this, Sylvia stopped crying immediately. She eagerly pointed toward the door. “Out... out in the hallway. Her room is just a couple doors down.”
Simmering with rage, Yardley turned and marched out without another word.
Not bothering to think rationally, he strode down the hall, lifted a leg, and violently kicked the hospital room door open!
Inside the room.
Scarlett had just finished persuading Jacqueline to go home and rest, and the older woman had left not long ago.
Dawn's high fever had finally broken. Scarlett had just fed her, hummed a lullaby, and spent ages rocking her until the baby drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
