"Mom, what is going on with Yardley? Wasn't he going to demand an explanation from Scarlett? Why is it taking him so long?"
"Stay here with Caleb, I am going to check!"
Unable to hold back any longer, Sylvia signaled Gwen to watch over Caleb while she opened the door and marched out.
But she hadn't taken more than a few steps when she spotted Yardley. He was carefully supporting a pale, exhausted Scarlett, holding her IV bag high as they slowly made their way back to her room.
Sylvia froze in place as if she had been turned to stone.
Yardley had been so furious just moments ago. How did he suddenly turn into the perfect, devoted husband, staying faithfully by her side?
Watching the affectionate scene of the couple leaning on each other, Sylvia instantly felt a wave of sheer, maddening rage wash over her.
She stormed back into her own room and slammed the door with terrifying force.
The loud bang successfully startled her heavily sedated son awake, sending Caleb into an ear-piercing wail.
Gwen glared at her, furious.
"Sylvia, what are you doing? The baby is so small, couldn't you close the door a little softer?"
Sylvia's eyes blazed with intense hatred.
"Mom, do you know what I just saw?"
"Yardley didn't confront Scarlett at all. He went over there to play the role of the perfect husband!"
"I bet you anything he is still in Scarlett's room right now. Go check if you don't believe me!"
Gwen was stunned. She held Caleb, rocking him to soothe his cries as she shook her head in disbelief.
"How is that possible?"
"Yardley was so furious earlier. And with the way Scarlett behaves, would he really spoil her? I don't believe it. Yardley isn't a man who abandons his principles like that."
Sylvia planted her hands on her hips, seething.
"Mom, it's true! I saw it with my own eyes!"
"Scarlett was playing the victim, hooked up to an IV, and Yardley probably felt bad for her. He was carrying her IV bag with one hand and supporting her with the other. They looked so incredibly in love!"
"If this keeps up, they will be fully reconciled in a few days. Call Aunt Corinne right now and tell her to get over here. We cannot let them make up!"
