He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 133

The doctors and nurses scrambled into action.

They rushed Scarlett into an examination room while Yardley collapsed onto a seat in the hallway, burying his face in his hands as he broke down.

Zara appeared beside Yardley at some point, letting out a heavy sigh.

"Mrs. Flynn has barely slept or eaten a single bite over the last two days. With Dawn running a persistent fever, she had no appetite at all."

"She loves that little girl to the marrow of her bones. Even during her postpartum recovery period, we begged her to stay in bed and rest, but she refused to listen. The moment the baby cried, she was up. She completely exhausted her body."

"Mr. Flynn, you should really show her more care. Ever since she had Dawn, her nerves have been stretched incredibly thin."

Yardley remained silent, completely overwhelmed.

His chest tightened, his breath catching in his throat.

It was in this moment that it finally hit him like a physical blow. Was all of Scarlett's erratic, defensive behavior stemming from a profound lack of security?

It was because he had failed to do what a husband was supposed to do.

Throughout her entire pregnancy and the grueling process of childbirth, he had severely neglected her feelings. He had always assumed she was independent and sensible, capable of handling everything on her own. Over time, he had simply taken it for granted and stopped paying attention.

Scarlett had fainted due to low blood sugar from not eating.

After the doctor treated her, she was hooked up to an IV drip for nutrients and allowed to return to her daughter's room to rest.

When Yardley saw Scarlett waking up and walking out while holding her own IV bag high, he immediately rushed over. He took the bag from her and supported her arm, his movements exceptionally gentle, his expression filled with intense focus and deep guilt.

Scarlett felt an instinctual wave of disgust. She wanted to shove him away and keep him as far from her as possible.

Smelling the distinct scent of hospital disinfectant clinging to his clothes made it all feel even more ironic. She wished he were thousands of miles away.

But right now, she had absolutely zero strength. She didn't even have the energy to speak.

She closed her eyes, letting Yardley guide her back to the hospital room.

The VIP suite was massive and comfortable, with a wide bed for visitors. As soon as Scarlett lay down, Zara quickly brought over a peeled boiled egg.

"Here, Mrs. Flynn. Please eat this. I just boiled it to help you get some of your strength back."

Scarlett nodded, taking the egg and eating it in tiny bites. She tilted her head back against the soft pillows, still feeling a bit dizzy, and unknowingly drifted off to sleep.
