He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 147

Towering flames shot aggressively into the night sky from La Belle Nuit, Jacqueline's exclusive entertainment club.

The fiery glow stained the entire horizon a vicious red. Countless partygoers, who had been inside enjoying the vibrant nightlife, were stampeding out of the building in pure panic.

Through the lens of the news broadcast, the scene was absolute chaos. Firefighters had deployed their ladder trucks and were relentlessly charging into the inferno to rescue trapped civilians, while the police scrambled desperately to evacuate the area.

Scarlett's heart plummeted into her stomach. She immediately wrenched open her bedroom door.

At almost the exact same moment, Jacqueline dashed out of her room, her hair disheveled. She was throwing on her clothes in a frantic rush as she headed for the stairs.

"Scarlett, there's a massive fire at La Belle Nuit. I have to get over there right now."

She had clearly received the news as well and was sprinting downstairs without a second thought.

"Mom. Wait. I'm coming with you."

Seeing her mother's panic, Scarlett didn't even bother to change out of her pajamas. she bolted down the stairs right behind her.

"Why are you following me? Dawn is home alone. I'll go check the situation myself."

Jacqueline turned and barked sharply at Scarlett.

But Scarlett stubbornly stepped forward and clamped an iron grip around Jacqueline's wrist.

"Mom, I have to go. You just had surgery, and I am not risking anything happening to you."

"Zara can watch Dawn. I need to be by your side at the scene."

"Mom, you have to listen to me. You cannot push yourself too hard right now. Promise me that no matter what happens, you will hold on. You have to stay healthy and live for me and Dawn. Do you understand?"

Scarlett's gaze was cold, fierce, and entirely uncompromising, radiating an undeniable authority.

Before Jacqueline could even argue, Scarlett was already calling loudly for Zara, waking the nanny to give her strict instructions to watch over Dawn.

Immediately after, she sprinted to the garage, pulled her car around, and jerked her head toward Jacqueline, signaling her to get in.

Throughout the entire ordeal, Scarlett didn't leave her mother an inch of room to argue. That sheer, unyielding determination to protect her mother left Jacqueline stunned for a few seconds.

Ever since giving birth, her daughter seemed to have grown up overnight. She had become resilient, decisive, utterly fearless, and completely unstoppable.

It was a good thing. This was the raw power that a mother's love instilled in a woman.

Pushing her awe aside, Jacqueline quickly pulled open the passenger door and climbed in. Together, they sped off toward the blazing ruins of La Belle Nuit.
