He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 219

The voice was shrill, grating, and... all too familiar.

Hearing it felt like a sharp slap across Yardley's face, snapping him out of his drunken haze. He immediately straightened his knees, stood tall, and turned toward the speaker.

A woman with long, wavy hair, wearing a tight black dress and a bright orange Hermès shawl, was glaring at him with absolute disdain.

It was his older sister, Melanie Flynn.

Yardley's expression hardened, his voice chilling. "Melanie. What are you doing here? When did you get back to the country?"

Melanie stormed over, grabbed his wrist, and glared at him. "If I didn't come back, this family was going to be completely destroyed by this woman! You are so pathetic! Any normal man would just sign the papers and be done with it, but you're actually begging her to take you back? No wonder Dad is so furious with you. He's thinking about calling a board meeting to strip you of your position as CEO!"

A cold sweat broke out across Yardley's back. "What did you just say? Melanie, that's impossible."

She shoved him hard in the chest. "If you keep acting like a lovesick fool over this bitch, your CEO title is gone! Dad has three illegitimate kids out there; his loyalty hasn't been with this family for a long time. You are coming home with me right now!"

She yanked him behind her and turned her furious gaze onto Scarlett.

In the five years Scarlett had been married, she had only met Melanie a handful of times. But she knew well enough that of all Yardley's sisters, Melanie was the most vicious and sharp-tongued.

Instinctively cautious, Scarlett took a deliberate step back.

Sure enough, a split second later, Melanie lashed out, aiming a vicious slap at her face. Thanks to her preemptive step back, the strike missed completely.

Failing to make contact only twisted Melanie's face into an even uglier snarl. "You ungrateful little tramp! Joining the Flynn family was the best thing that ever happened to you, and you still have the nerve to drag our name through the mud! You want a divorce? Fine! If Yardley won't agree to it, I'll agree for him! You take your daughter and you get the hell out of the Flynn family. And you're leaving with nothing—not a single dime! If you agree to that, you can march straight to City Hall tomorrow!"

Scarlett's face went rigid. "I am not the party at fault here. Why should I walk away with nothing? Everything that belongs to me and my daughter will be given to us. Not a penny less."
