He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 248

Yardley slumped into his executive chair, pressing his fingertips hard into his temples to suppress the surging emotions within.

Just then, Clarissa Flynn knocked and entered. The sharp click of her heels against the floor echoed her usual commanding presence.

"Yardley, where are those files Nathan had you sign yesterday? Let me take a look to see if there are any issues."

Yardley numbly slid the top file away and handed her the rest.

Seeing his pale face and off-kilter demeanor, Clarissa asked with concern, "What's wrong? Are you okay?"

Yardley buried his face in his hands, his voice devoid of strength, as if his entire spirit had been drained. "I'm fine. Clarissa, I've decided to divorce Scarlett."

"I'm giving her the baby. She can take whatever she asked for. After all, she was with me for five years, and I couldn't even give her a proper wedding. I really owe her a lot..."

Clarissa was stunned, but her tone quickly turned resolute and uncompromising. "I support compensating her as long as it's not excessive. But how can you give up the baby? Yardley, that is your first child! Don't adopt Mom and Dad's archaic preference for boys. In today's society, daughters are just as precious!"

Yardley remained silent for a long time. His deep eyes were swimming with an incredibly dense exhaustion, the hallmark of chronic insomnia and mental burnout. "Scarlett loves Dawn very much. She would never give her to me. We've been dragging this out for so long, and I'm just too tired. All I want right now is to be free of this. Please leave. I want to be alone for a minute."

A thousand words caught in Clarissa's throat. Seeing her brother tortured to this state broke her heart, but she was entirely powerless.

A relationship was, after all, between two people; outsiders had no place meddling.

Taking the files, she dejectedly returned to her own office, opening them one by one to review...

After lunch, Scarlett stood up to leave her office.

Seeing her grab her purse, Julian looked slightly confused. "Scarlett, where are you headed?"

Scarlett hadn't told anyone that Yardley had agreed to the divorce.

Her personality was such that she didn't like to announce things prematurely; she preferred to let the results speak for themselves.
