Scarlett stood perfectly still, listening to Melanie's vile speech. Surprisingly, the tension in her shoulders slowly ebbed away.
She kept her eyes locked on Yardley.
At this moment, beneath the hatred and fury, there was a profound, bone-deep disgust.
Since they were so desperate to pour this dirty water on her, fine. She would show them exactly what it meant to play with fire.
Yardley's face darkened completely. Meeting her gaze, his voice trembled. "Do you really have nothing to say for yourself?"
Her absolute calmness unsettled him.
He had assumed that once Melanie exposed this to the media, Scarlett would panic. He thought she would lose her composure, drop to her knees, and frantically beg him to believe it wasn't true.
But there was not a single trace of guilt in her eyes. Instead, there was a mocking amusement—a condescending pity, as if she were watching a pathetic play.
It felt like a knife twisting into his lungs. He felt that her silence was an admission of guilt. He stared at her with murderous rage.
But a second later, he let out a bitter, furious laugh. "Amazing, Scarlett... I never imagined you wouldn't even offer a single word of defense."
Scarlett let out a soft chuckle. She casually tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, her tone impossibly light. "I have nothing to explain. Because what Melanie said... is entirely true."
*Boom!*
The words detonated in Yardley's mind like a bomb.
His bitter smile froze instantly. He stood rooted to the spot, looking at her in utter disbelief as if he had just been struck by lightning. "What... what did you just say?"
Meeting his shocked gaze, Scarlett's smile deepened, though her eyes were a freezing wasteland. "I said, Melanie is right. Dawn is not your biological daughter."
The entire hall plunged into a horrifying, deathly silence.
Talia was completely bewildered. Thinking Scarlett had lost her mind, she frantically tugged at her sleeve. "Scarlett..."
Scarlett shook her head, giving Talia a reassuring look.
