Sylvia shrieked in panic and rushed forward to help him up, but Yardley shoved her away.
His voice was low, dangerous, and dripping with agony. He pointed a shaking finger at Scarlett. "Tell me... is she yours and Julian's?"
He finally asked the question himself.
It had haunted his mind endlessly, and now, he had finally said it out loud.
Scarlett couldn't believe her ears.
It felt as if Yardley had shoved a chunk of burning iron straight into her chest. It scraped against her ribs, burning so deeply she had to swallow hard repeatedly just to breathe, unable to force a single word past the lump in her throat.
It was sickening. Utterly sickening.
She marched forward and, in front of everyone, delivered a resounding slap right across his face. *Smack!*
She glared at him with a fury so intense she looked ready to tear him apart.
A thin trail of blood trickled from the corner of Yardley's mouth.
The slap jolted his brain, clearing it just a fraction. He stared up at her, his voice hoarse and broken. "Are you telling me I've wronged you?"
Before Scarlett could answer, Melanie charged forward. Seeing Scarlett slap her brother in public pushed her over the edge. Enraged, she raised her hand, aiming a vicious slap at Scarlett's face.
But before it could land, Scarlett caught her wrist in a vice grip.
The two women locked eyes. Melanie was practically vibrating with rage.
"I personally collected the DNA samples for this paternity test! It's in black and white! This child is not his!"
"The Flynn family has never suffered such profound humiliation! Lately, this woman has been turning Bay City upside down just to get a divorce. Meanwhile, my poor brother was kept entirely in the dark, doing everything he could to save their marriage—he even knelt outside her house for three days and three nights in a storm!"
"He knelt in the pouring rain and gave himself severe pneumonia! But during the half-month he was hospitalized, this woman didn't visit him once!"
"I beg the media to seek justice for the Flynn family! I want this woman's true colors exposed! I want her utterly ruined and nailed to the pillar of shame!"
Staring right into the lenses, Melanie delivered her meticulously crafted speech without missing a beat.
Instantly, the entire hall plunged into a deathly silence, punctuated only by the frantic *click-click-click* of camera shutters.
