Julian didn't waste another second. He tightened his grip on her and sprinted to his car, throwing her into the passenger side before sliding in and locking the doors.
As he reached for the ignition, Yardley charged the vehicle like a madman, violently pounding his fists against the reinforced glass, screaming for him to open the door.
Inside the cabin, the aphrodisiac completely hijacked Scarlett's nervous system.
It felt like someone had injected boiling lava directly into her veins. Every inch of her skin was on fire, hypersensitive to the slightest friction. Even the soft fabric of her clothes rubbing against her felt like sandpaper, making her writhe in relentless torment.
"I'm... so... hot..."
The words tumbled out as a desperate, honey-sweet whimper.
Losing all self-control, she reached out, her trembling hands latching onto Julian's collar. She scrambled over the center console, practically throwing herself into his lap.
She clung to him like a lifeline. In the cramped space of the driver's seat, Julian had nowhere to go, no room to push her away.
She buried her flushed face into the cool, crisp fabric of his dress shirt, rubbing against him frantically. Her lips searched blindly, desperate to absorb any source of cold she could find.
Julian's eyes widened in sheer panic. His breathing hitched.
He just needed to put the car in drive and rush her to the ER. But Yardley was practically throwing himself onto the hood, physically blocking their exit.
Inside the car was a woman stripped of her sanity by a chemical cocktail.
Outside the car was a husband completely unhinged by blinding jealousy.
It was a nightmare scenario too absurd for a soap opera, playing out in real-time.
Julian felt like he was losing his mind. Trying to control his erratic breathing, he leaned on the horn, blasting it repeatedly.
"Scarlett, be good. Stop moving, I need to drive."
"Can you hear me? Just hold on a little longer. I'm getting you to a doctor."
His voice was strained. He tried to steer with one hand while clamping his other arm tightly around her waist to keep her from squirming.
"I'm... thirsty..."
It felt like a jagged hunting knife had been driven straight into Yardley's chest and twisted.
Pure, toxic jealousy completely obliterated his sanity. He grabbed a heavy rock from the roadside and began violently bashing it against the driver's side window.
*BANG! BANG! BANG!*
"Scarlett! Julian! Get the hell out of that car!"
"How could you... how could you do this?!"
His eyes were completely bloodshot as he stared at their tangled bodies.
"Julian! Get your damn hands off her! I'm ordering you!"
The reinforced safety glass didn't even spiderweb.
His voice tore into a ragged, guttural scream. Tossing the rock aside, he began throwing his entire body weight against the door panel, slamming into it over and over again like a rabid animal.
