He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 388

Yardley was always her ultimate standard. One look five years ago, and she had been obsessed ever since. She thought she had lost him forever when he got married, but by some miracle, they had found their way back to each other—and the spark was instantaneous.

Now, Yardley pressed her against the wall, the heat of his body radiating against hers. She nervously bit her lip, closed her eyes, and tipped her chin up, fully prepared to be kissed breathless.

His hands framed her face. Her cheeks burned, blurring the line between her own heat and the searing warmth of his palms. She was desperate for his touch.

But she waited. And waited. The kiss never came.

Confused, Veronica cracked her eyes open, only to realize he wasn't even looking at her. His gaze was locked with terrifying intensity on the closed door of the room just down the hall, as if he were waiting for someone specific to walk out.

"Yardley, what—"

Before she could finish, the click of a door handle echoed through the quiet corridor.

Yardley violently snapped his head back to her, crushed her against the wall, and crashed his mouth down on hers.

Veronica's heart practically exploded in her chest. The kiss was aggressive, desperate, and heavily performative. His teeth scraped harshly against her lip, actually hurting her, but she didn't care.

What she couldn't see was that out of the corner of his eye, Yardley was still dead-locked on that door. A raging fire consumed him; he was betting everything that Scarlett would walk out, that she would be consumed by jealousy, that she would finally show she still cared.

The door opened. It was indeed Scarlett, accompanied by Talia—Julian and Chatwin had gone to handle the discharge paperwork.

They took two steps before freezing dead in their tracks, staring in shock at the sight of Yardley practically devouring a gorgeous woman against the wall.

Talia's jaw dropped, and she whipped her head to look at Scarlett.

Scarlett blinked. The initial shock in her eyes vanished in a millisecond, replaced by a chilling wave of utter indifference.

So that was it. He was throwing a tantrum, so he grabbed a random woman to put on a cheap kissing show right outside her door?
