He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 395

"Take a moment to really think about it. Look at how Scarlett has treated you over the past five years. Is it really possible that she cheated, slept with another man, and got pregnant?"

"As an outsider, I could see it clear as day. She loved you to death. She was with you all the time—working during the day, coming home to you at night. She's not the kind of woman who plays around. What do you think the odds are that she's carrying someone else's kid?"

"Besides, you're a grown man. Others might not know if the kid was conceived with you, but shouldn't you know your own intimate life?"

"Lately, the things you've been saying and doing are completely beneath you. Your judgment has hit rock bottom; it's like you're a different person. As your friend, I'm risking my neck saying this, but if I'm being too harsh, I hope you won't hold it against me."

"I know people can be emotionally compromised when they're angry, but you can't lose your basic sense of logic."

"If the baby really wasn't yours, why would Scarlett be so furious and publicly declare to the cameras that the child is solely hers?"

Yardley froze, his entire body going stiff. He had no counterargument.

Harbour's words were tough to swallow. In the past, Yardley would have exploded in anger at being lectured like this.

But right now, it was as if he had lost his voice. He couldn't utter a single syllable.

Everything Harbour said made perfect sense, which meant... the problem really was him?!

Yardley slumped back against the sofa, staring blankly at the ceiling. "Then tell me, what do I do now? The mandatory waiting period before finalization of divorce in this country is almost over. I already agreed to it, and her lawyer just sent a lawsuit to enforce the divorce."

Her tone was chillingly calm and distant. "Harbour, don't call me Mrs. Flynn anymore. Things between Yardley and me are over. You're his friend, so I really don't see any reason for us to talk. Besides, it's late, and I need to spend time with my daughter. Goodbye."

Harbour let out a sigh over the phone. "Then let's just talk on the phone. I've always felt like I owed you an apology. If I hadn't mistakenly sent you that transfer text, you and Yardley... might not be where you are today. I'm sorry. Since you won't let me call you Mrs. Flynn, I'll just call you Scarlett."

Scarlett paused.

It was true that the spark igniting their marital crisis began with Harbour's text and transfer.

But what did that really have to do with him? The root of the problem was that Yardley had never treated her like a wife, which was why he constantly crossed lines and ignored her feelings.
