A group of female employees huddled together, gossiping excitedly while making sure to aim a few thinly veiled jabs at Sylvia.
Hearing their whispers, Sylvia felt as though her heart was being punctured by a hundred needles. Her face darkened instantly. Crossing her arms, she stepped forward and snapped, "Don't forget you still work for Flynn Group. Aren't you worried Mr. Flynn will hear you praising her like that and fire you all?"
Since arriving, Sylvia had constantly thrown Yardley's name around to intimidate the veteran staff and establish dominance. But everyone had quickly seen through her—she was just an empty vase, and nobody bought her act.
One of them immediately fired back, "Mr. Flynn doesn't have the free time to monitor our conversations. As long as certain people don't run off to tattle and play pretend-boss, we'll be fine."
"Exactly! Besides, with the company's profits tanking, our bonuses have been slashed anyway. I've heard Croft Group's benefits are incredible. If we get fired, we'd be thrilled! It'd be the perfect excuse to go work for Ms. Langley!"
"Why do you think she's here today?"
"Didn't you notice the staff behind them carrying all those gift boxes? They definitely came to hand out wedding favors to us!"
"Oh, I am definitely getting one! I need some of that good luck!"
"Me too! Let's go!"
Because Scarlett had been so approachable and hardworking during her time there, she had built up a lot of goodwill. She had initially felt a bit awkward returning under such a different identity, but her former colleagues spotted her instantly. Before she even stepped inside, they swarmed her, their faces beaming with genuine warmth.
"Ms. Langley! It's been so long!"
