Elara let out a long, heavy sigh. "We can't control what other people do; we can only control ourselves."
"Julian, I just hope that when you marry again, you don't rush into it. Take your time, evaluate her character. Don't be so hasty. Your marriage to Sylvia was just far too rushed from the start."
Julian offered a bitter, self-deprecating smile. "Mom, when I told you I wanted to marry her, why didn't you stop me?"
Elara looked at him, her eyes brimming with maternal affection. "You were almost thirty and single. All you ever did was work. We never even saw you look at a woman. When you suddenly brought a girl home and said you were getting married, your father and I were too thrilled to object!"
"Honestly, if you hadn't started dating soon, your dad was secretly starting to wonder about your sexual orientation... So, of course, we assumed you were bringing home the love of your life. We unconditionally supported whoever you liked. How were we supposed to know..."
Julian froze, staring at her in disbelief. "Mom, what kind of parents question their own son's orientation?"
Elara covered her mouth, a sudden laugh breaking the heavy tension in the room. "Haha... your dad said it was my fault. He said I raised you to be too clean and studious, which is exactly why you got scammed by a toxic woman."
"In fact, your dad told me to pass on a message: now that you're divorced, you should casually date ten or so women first. Learn how to read people before you even think about a second marriage. And if you're struggling, he's willing to give you some hands-on coaching..."
Julian's face darkened, his brows pulling tightly together. "Mom!"
"I don't need dating advice from an outdated old man. I know exactly what I want now. I already know what kind of woman I'm looking for."
Elara's eyes lit up, her curiosity instantly piqued. "Oh? What kind? Tell me!"
The tips of Julian's ears turned a faint shade of red. For some inexplicable reason, Scarlett's cool, stubborn face flashed across his mind.
He quickly turned his head, masking the emotion in his eyes. "Don't worry about it. It's late. Go to sleep."
Catching the shift in his demeanor, Elara swallowed her burning questions. She turned and walked out of the room, but the second the door clicked shut, she practically sprinted to Dominic and grabbed his arm, whispering excitedly.
"Our son has a crush on someone! I couldn't get a name out of him, but I am dying to know!"
