He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 408

Her two assistants stood on either side of her like stone gargoyles, amplifying her overbearing presence.

Scarlett walked over and set the coffee down. "Your coffee, Director Thorne."

Veronica didn't even bother looking up. She simply tilted her head slightly, pinching the handle with two fingers. She took a tiny sip, instantly scrunched up her nose, and slammed the cup down onto the table.

"Designer Langley, is this how you treat your clients?"

Scarlett didn't flinch. She met the woman's glare evenly. "Director Thorne, it's an Americano. No sugar, splash of milk, exactly as you requested. Is there an issue?"

Veronica scoffed, her gaze dripping with condescension. "It's just a cup of coffee, yet it took you forever to make it. It really makes me wonder if all the hype about you being Croft Design's star architect is completely fabricated. Your efficiency is a joke."

A spark of irritation flared in Scarlett's chest.

Veronica was being utterly unreasonable. She wasn't here to discuss the project; she was here to pick a fight.

But then Scarlett thought of the billion-dollar S-Class cultural tourism town project. Landing it would be the defining milestone of her architectural career. She closed her eyes for a split second, reining in her temper.

Her hands balled into tight fists under the table, but her face remained a mask of polite indifference.

"Director Thorne, a designer's worth is proven through their work and their results, not their speed as a barista. After all, brewing coffee isn't my actual job. Why don't we get back to the matter at hand and discuss the project?"

"How dare you!"
