Ring... Ring...
The call connected almost instantly.
"Mr. Croft?"
The voice of a middle-aged man filtered through the speaker, sounding both terrified and incredibly respectful. Over the line, hurried footsteps could be heard.
"This is Joel Shaw, the director of Mercy Hospital. Why... why are you calling me personally? Is there something you need?"
His voice echoed with crystal clarity in the dead silence of the hospital room.
The smug grin on Veronica's face froze instantly. Her two assistants looked as though they had been struck by lightning, paralyzed in place.
Julian's expression remained entirely impassive, his tone flat.
"Mr. Shaw, someone is demanding that my friend vacate her VIP suite. Tell me, since when did Mercy Hospital belong to the Thorne family?"
"What?!"
Joel's voice skyrocketed an octave, filled with sheer panic and disbelief.
"Who would dare kick you out?! Mr. Croft, please, don't be angry! I'm on my way up! I'll be there in seconds!"
"Alright," Julian replied coolly.
His icy gaze drifted to Veronica, who had turned a ghastly shade of white.
"Get here now."
The room plunged back into a suffocating silence.
Veronica's face cycled through shades of pale, green, and then stark white again.
She stared at the unnervingly calm Julian, her legs beginning to tremble involuntarily.
Who exactly was Julian Croft?
Why was Director Shaw treating him with such profound reverence and fear?
Could it be... was he the major shareholder of Mercy Hospital?
Joel was scraping and bowing, desperately trying to shove Veronica toward the door.
Veronica's lips trembled violently. When she heard that Julian was the actual majority shareholder, all the blood drained from her face.
She stared at Julian in absolute shock. She never would have guessed that this low-key, unassuming man possessed such terrifying power.
Her father had mentioned the hospital's founding history to her countless times.
Mercy Hospital sat on a prime piece of real estate in the heart of Sutton City. The zoning and approval processes alone had been a nightmare. Her father had pulled every string he had, to no avail.
Yet, the mysterious majority shareholder had resolved the entire issue with a single phone call...
Which meant the person backing this hospital had connections so deep, even the Thorne family couldn't afford to cross them.
Veronica's jaw practically hit the floor. The revelation was too massive to comprehend. Instinctively, she tried to slink away, desperate to run home and interrogate her father.
Suddenly, Julian's cold, merciless voice sliced through the air.
"Ms. Thorne. You insult my friend, and you think you can just walk away?"
