He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 48

"Mr. Croft, your family has already prepared a welcome dinner at home," his assistant approached respectfully. Before he could finish, Julian cut him off.

"Before I head home, there's someone I need to see privately." Pulling out his phone, Julian scrolled to a specific number and hit dial.

At that moment, Scarlett had just finished her delicious lunch with Talia.

It had been over a year since she had been pregnant and given birth, and she had finally allowed herself a taste of heavily seasoned food. The flavor was so satisfying she couldn't stop raving about it.

Even though Talia had used very little spice to accommodate her breastfeeding, Scarlett still felt a twinge of guilt toward Dawn after finishing her meal.

She was just chiding herself for giving in to her cravings when her phone rang.

Seeing Julian's name flash on the screen, Scarlett stared at it in mild shock.

Wasn't Julian supposed to be overseas in Country A working on that classified project? Why was he calling her out of the blue? Suspicious, she answered. "Hello, Mr. Croft?"

A clear, smooth voice came through the speaker. "It's me, Scarlett. I'm currently in Bay City. Are you free to meet?"

Scarlett's stomach dropped, and her defenses immediately went up. "Why do you want to see me?"

Julian's tone was perfectly neutral. "There's something I want to discuss regarding the recent headlines."

Scarlett narrowed her eyes. Her immediate instinct was that he was here to demand justice for Sylvia.

She couldn't believe it. A simple internet scandal was enough to make him abandon a top-secret government project and fly all the way back just to defend Sylvia.

It really was exactly as Sylvia had bragged—Julian was entirely at her beck and call.
