He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 54

He leaned down, lightly biting her earlobe. The gesture was intimate, but it sent a violent shiver down her spine.

"Don't touch me, Yardley. I... you disgust me."

Scarlett felt utterly humiliated, desperate to escape from beneath him. She fought back fiercely, her nails leaving angry red scratches across the back of his hand.

Yardley's gaze darkened. Instead of pulling away, he locked her in a tighter embrace, his voice low and dangerous.

"You won't feel that way for long."

He captured her lips again, his kisses trailing down from her mouth with an overwhelming, undeniable dominance... and a lethal familiarity.

For the five years of their marriage, before she became pregnant, they had always shared a deep physical connection.

Those passionate, unspoken late-night moments were once part of the reason she had been so completely devoted to him.

They were perfectly synced at work, and equally synced in the bedroom.

Before her pregnancy, they had been wildly intimate almost every night. Yardley had even confessed once that he was addicted to her.

She used to think that was an expression of love. But Sylvia's presence had taught her that physical desire had absolutely nothing to do with love.

Just like right now. She was fighting his touch with everything she had, yet he stubbornly pressed on, completely ignoring her feelings.

Scarlett squeezed her eyes shut, letting the tears fall silently.

His hand slipped beneath the hem of her shirt, his fingertips burning against her skin. His voice grew even huskier.

"I know you've been suffering lately, Scarlett. It's my fault. I'm sorry I wasn't there during your postpartum recovery."

She bit her lower lip to keep from crying out, but her body trembled uncontrollably. She turned her head away.

"Shut up. Apologies are useless."

Yardley forced her face back, kissing her deeply and urgently before finally pulling away.

"I'll make it up to you. Tomorrow, I'll put your name on Orchard Villa."

"I already got you a new supplementary card. From now on, you have access to everything I own. Buy whatever you want."

He reached out, affectionately brushing the hair from her forehead.

"I told you a long time ago, there's no divorce once you're married to me. You are my woman for the rest of your life. You love me, don't you?"

He closed the distance between them inch by inch, his warm breath brushing against her cheek.

"Wife."

He murmured the word softly, his voice dark and rough.

"We're so perfect together. Can you really bear to throw this away?"

At the same time, his hands didn't stop moving.

A sudden jolt of electricity surged through her, leaving her entire body numb and paralyzed.

His strikingly handsome face was inches from hers. His impossibly dark eyes stared intensely into hers through the nonexistent space between them.
