"Oh my god. Talia might be walking straight into a trap!"
Scarlett's voice trembled as her fingers flew across her phone screen, desperately trying to call her best friend.
However, the only response she got was an automated, mechanical voice.
"We are sorry, the number you have dialed is powered off..."
"Her phone is off! She's already boarded the plane!"
All the color drained from Scarlett's face. She whipped her head toward Julian, her eyes instantly brimming with panicked tears.
"Julian, I can't reach her. What do we do? If this really is an elaborate scam, going to a lawless place like Tyrellia all alone..."
Scarlett was on the verge of breaking down. She spun around and bolted toward the door, ready to run.
Julian immediately understood the severity of the situation. The relaxed warmth vanished from his demeanor.
Seeing her entirely consumed by panic, he closed the distance with long strides and gripped her shoulders firmly.
"Scarlett, look at me. Don't panic.
"If Talia has already boarded the plane, racing to the airport now won't accomplish anything."
Scarlett took a jagged breath. She knew she was losing control, but the fear was suffocating.
Talia was her lifelong best friend. They had practically grown up together. The thought of Talia being tricked into a dangerous foreign country made tears spill over her lashes.
"Then what do we do? If this 'Virgil' is a scammer, what's going to happen to her?"
Her mind was a chaotic mess, and her entire body was shaking.
Julian looked directly into her eyes, his voice steady and grounding.
"If the identity is stolen and they actively lured her to Tyrellia, then this is a meticulously orchestrated setup.
The contacts agreed to intercept Talia the moment she disembarked and inform her of the truth before she left the terminal.
Even with the assurance that Talia would likely be intercepted safely, Scarlett's heart pounded relentlessly, her legs feeling like lead.
First, Gordon Wyatt's suspicious car accident, and now Talia being lured into a trap overseas. Combined with that cryptic phone call from before... Scarlett was absolutely certain this was a coordinated attack aimed directly at her.
Being constantly on the defensive was completely infuriating!
Scarlett clenched her fists, an inferno of rage igniting in her eyes.
She knew, almost without a doubt, that this was the work of Kane Stetson—acting on Sylvia's orders!
The problem was that she didn't have the hard evidence to prove it yet.
But Scarlett had never been the type of woman to just sit back and take a beating.
