He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 699

Moe's eyes darted frantically as he weighed his options.

Seeing his hesitation, Stellan simply grabbed the man's arm and twisted it into an agonizing lock.

"The dashcam in my car just recorded your entire attempted murder," Stellan said icily. "If you decide not to cooperate, we can drag you to the police station right now."

He leaned down, whispering directly into Moe's ear. "And let me be perfectly clear: if you double-cross us, I have a thousand different ways to break you. Test me if you want."

Towering over him, Stellan's eyes looked like two cold, gleaming steel blades. It was terrifying.

Moe shuddered, all the fight completely leaving his body. "And... if I cooperate? What's in it for me?"

Stellan patted his cheek condescendingly. "You and your girlfriend get to keep breathing. Do a good job, and we'll make it worth your while when this is over."

Moe hesitated for a fraction of a second. "Fine... deal."

Once Moe was released, Julian and Stellan stood under the pale moonlight, watching the thug limp away into the shadows until he disappeared from sight.

The two men exchanged a silent look before simultaneously turning their attention back to the woman sleeping peacefully in the backseat.

Stellan crossed his arms. "Scarlett's had too much to drink. I'll take her back to the Magnolia Villa."

Julian waved him off smoothly. "She's already in my car. It makes more sense for me to drive her."

Stellan shook his head immediately. "I'm her personal bodyguard. Making sure she gets home safely is literally my job. I'll take it from here."

Julian's tone cooled. "It's no trouble. I don't mind."

Stellan stepped closer. "But handing her over to you? I do mind. I'm not comfortable with it."

But to his shock, Stellan—usually the stoic, disciplined professional—aggressively bumped his shoulder, shoving Julian aside to grab Scarlett's arm first.

Scarlett rubbed her temples, stepping out onto the pavement. A blast of cold night air hit her face, and her stomach immediately churned, threatening to rebel.

"Just... just let Stellan take me home. It's on his way," she muttered without a second thought.

The moment the words left her mouth, Julian's expression instantly darkened, while Stellan's perpetually frozen face broke into a rare, unmistakable smirk of triumph.

"Mr. Croft, there's no need to trouble yourself. Have a good night," Stellan said smoothly.

Before Julian could even react, Stellan swept Scarlett up into his arms in a blur of motion, tossing her gently into his own passenger seat.

By the time Julian took a step forward, Stellan was already in the driver's seat, locking the doors with a loud click. Firing up the engine, he shot Julian one last smug, infuriating grin before flooring the gas, disappearing into the night.
