He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 733

Scarlett silently took the photo and stared blankly at the people in it.

Their distinct facial features gave her a profound sense of familiarity. She immediately blurted out, "Are these my mother and her two brothers when they were young?"

Elara nodded. "Yes. The girl on the far left with the braids is me. The one next to me is your mother. And beside her are your two uncles, rocking the slicked-back hair and wearing suits and overcoats that were popular back then. Your mother and I are wearing the uniforms from Nightingale Academy for Girls."

"Your grandparents were famous for their good looks when they were young. Your uncles and your mother inherited those features; they were all incredibly attractive."

"This is the only photo I have left of them. I want you to have it."

With trembling hands, Scarlett couldn't help but stare at the faces in the picture, completely lost in thought.

The two uncles looked so dashing, sharing at least a seventy percent resemblance to her brother's face from their video calls.

The thought that her grandfather's entire family had been wiped out, ceasing to exist in this world, brought tears to Scarlett's eyes. Her expression froze in sorrow.

After a long pause, she couldn't help but ask, "Are there no other Langley descendants left? And what about the family estate? Wasn't it preserved?"

Elara sighed. "The estate was auctioned off and eventually bought by the Flynn family. It's what is now known as Flynn Manor. However, they completely renovated it. I have no idea if any of the antiques or personal belongings from back then survived."

Seeing how pale Scarlett had become, a flash of sympathy crossed Elara's eyes.

She reached out and gently placed her hand over Scarlett's. "Scarlett, I know this is a lot to process. But I've always felt that there's a dark secret behind the Langleys' downfall."

Elara sighed, lowering her voice even further. "It's been a heavy burden on my heart, too. I used to go to the Langley estate all the time when I was little. To be perfectly honest, your Uncle Reuben and I were childhood sweethearts. I never imagined he would die so young!"

"Your grandfather was a famous tea merchant in Bay City, and the Langleys had been making tea for generations. When they died, their secret family tea recipe vanished with them. These are all questions you'll have to find the answers to."

"Also, the moment your father went bankrupt, the Flynns quickly swallowed up all his properties and became the reigning real estate giants. I've always felt there was something fishy about that, though maybe it's just my own speculation."
