Scarlett was stunned.
Looking into Julian's eyes, seeing the raw, unfiltered sincerity and affection there, her heart gave a violent tremor.
She thought back to her marriage with Yardley. There had been no wedding photos, no ceremony, just a dismissive, *'Let's just sign the papers. Anything else is too much of a hassle.'*
Yet here was Julian, knowing full well that this was just a contract, looking her in the eye and telling her she deserved to be honored.
The contrast was overwhelming.
Taking a deep breath, she held his gaze. "Aren't you afraid of getting your heart broken again, Julian?"
His eyes darkened slightly. "By anyone else? Yes."
"But for you? Even if it breaks me, I'm going all in."
Scarlett's chest tightened, leaving her completely speechless. Leaning back against the leather seat, she watched the scenery blur past the window, her mind a turbulent sea. She had no idea what the future held or where they would be in three years.
But for the first time in a very long time, she felt truly cherished.
They arrived at the auction house shortly after. As they stepped out of the car, they found themselves face-to-face with Yardley and Veronica, who were walking toward the entrance together.
Scarlett's brow furrowed. She hadn't expected to see them here.
Yardley certainly seemed to be enjoying his bachelorhood, bouncing between Sylvia and Veronica.
A mocking smile touched Scarlett's lips. Pretending they were invisible, she hooked her arm through Julian's and walked straight toward the doors.
Yardley and Veronica shadowed them.
"I didn't think you'd come to a place like this just for the spectacle," came Yardley's low, gravelly voice.
His instincts were always razor-sharp. "I'm betting he's here hoping to catch a glimpse of this mysterious Mr. Bishop."
"What makes you say that?" Scarlett asked, curious.
Julian flashed a confident smile. "Because I know how he operates."
"He came to Country A solely to find your brother and confirm his own suspicions. Let's just sit back and see how this plays out."
It made perfect sense. Yardley had doubted Scarlett's relationship with Bill countless times in the past, constantly trying to figure out if they were actually siblings. Now that he was here, his ego wouldn't let him leave without answers.
They stepped into the venue. The hall was already buzzing with high-society elites. Scarlett and Julian were escorted to the third row—a perfect vantage point, neither too flashy nor too obscured.
Yardley and Veronica, however, had secured seats in the very front row, right in the center.
