Yardley's heart skipped a beat.
Meeting the elusive Mr. Bishop in person was the entire reason he had attended the auction in the first place.
But Scarlett's sudden appearance had completely scrambled his brain, baiting him into buying a ridiculously overpriced piece of jewelry while completely distracting him from his actual goal.
Now, Mr. Bishop was actively summoning him.
If he could actually meet the man behind AM Capital, this disastrous trip might actually be worth it.
Yardley quickly addressed the man. "You mean Mr. Connor Bishop of AM Capital?"
"Yes, sir. Please, follow me."
The young man maintained a flawless, professional smile, leading Yardley toward the VIP exit.
Seeing this, Veronica quickly scrambled out of her seat and hurried after them.
The young man led Yardley out to a waiting stretch Rolls-Royce.
Yardley hesitated for a fraction of a second before climbing into the plush leather interior.
Veronica immediately moved to follow him in, but the young man smoothly stepped in her way, blocking the door.
"I apologize, Miss. You are not permitted in the vehicle."
Veronica's eyebrows shot up. "Excuse me? I'm with him."
The young man stood perfectly straight, his expression entirely unbothered. "That doesn't change anything. The invitation was for Mr. Flynn alone. My apologies."
Veronica opened her mouth to argue, but Yardley leaned out of the open door.
"Veronica, just head back to the hotel and find Melanie. I'll be back later."
He made absolutely no effort to advocate for her.
At the end of the day, he and Veronica weren't officially anything. He felt zero obligation to drag her around with him everywhere he went.
That purple diamond was supposed to be hers. She had practically claimed it in her mind.
Instead, Scarlett was the one effortlessly stealing the spotlight, with a man like Julian Croft happily dropping thirty million just to make her smile.
Scarlett had walked away with a priceless diamond without lifting a finger, while Veronica had just been forced to empty fifty million from her own bank account just to keep an emerald.
The injustice made Veronica sick to her stomach.
Glaring daggers at Scarlett's retreating back, Veronica dialed Kane Stetson's number.
"Kane, what is taking so long with Scarlett? Julian just bought her a thirty-million-dollar diamond at the auction! If you don't make a move soon, she's going to slip right through our fingers!"
On the other end of the line, Kane's voice was slow, raspy, and entirely unbothered.
"Calm down. Everything is handled. The wheels are already in motion. Just sit back and watch the show. I burned a lot of money and called in a lot of favors to get Sylvia out. Make sure you remind her of that. Tell her to stop playing hard to get. Once she marries me, she'll have everything she ever wanted."
Veronica pressed her lips into a tight smile.
