He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 793

Blinding pain tore through the man's shoulder.

On pure reflex, he swung a brutal punch. The blow caught Scarlett hard, sending her head crashing against the concrete wall with a sickening thud. Her ears rang, and she collapsed to the ground.

Blood trickled down the side of the man's face. He clutched his head, completely blindsided by the fact that she still had the strength to fight back in her condition.

A violent rage took over. He staggered to his feet and viciously kicked her in the chest.

Scarlett let out a muffled groan, her body curling inward as a spasm of agony ripped through her.

Bleeding heavily from his scalp, the man cursed viciously, tearing a strip of fabric from his shirt to press against the wound.

Just then, Scarlett's phone lit up on the ground. Julian's name flashed across the cracked screen, accompanied by a vibrating ring.

The sight of his name sent a jolt of adrenaline through her failing heart. She scrambled for the phone, pressing it to her ear.

Julian's frantic voice roared through the speaker. "Scarlett! Where are you?!"

"Stellan got here! The three guys are dead. We're heading east right now!"

"Find somewhere to hide! We're almost there!"

Before she could even part her lips to speak, a hand snatched the device from her grasp.

Without a second's hesitation, the man powered the phone down and smashed it violently against the pavement.

Scarlett stared at the shattered pieces of plastic and glass, squeezing her eyes shut in sheer despair.

In the distance, the faint, unmistakable roar of an approaching car engine echoed through the alley.

"Cavalry's here, huh?"

The man had heard the voice on the other end of the line. He crouched down slowly, the manic heat in his eyes cooling into something calculated and lethal.

He hadn't accounted for her unnatural resistance to the drug. Even after breathing in that much of the chemical, she was still fighting.

With her backup closing in and her eyes burning with undeniable recognition, panic finally set in.

Without another word, he dragged her limp body toward an abandoned, rusted-out car parked deep in the alley.

He shoved her roughly into the backseat. By now, the drug was fully taking hold, rendering her limbs useless. She fought through the sickening vertigo, slumping helplessly against the worn upholstery.

"What... what do you want?" she slurred, her chest heaving. "I've never done anything to you... why are you doing this?"

He dug a set of keys from his pocket and started the engine. Realizing there was no point in hiding anymore, he ripped off his black mask and shed his dark jacket, revealing a sickly pale, undeniably handsome face.

"The one who wants to destroy you isn't me," he said, putting the car in drive.

"I just wanted to take advantage of the mess to enjoy your body first."
