"Don't worry, Scarlett. I know what I'm doing," Stellan assured her, before his tone shifted into a teasing drawl. "Though, I gotta say... Julian, you lucky bastard. You've got her all to yourself right now. You’d better step up your game. If you let an opportunity like this slip through your fingers, I won't be holding back next time."
A low, rumbling laugh escaped Julian’s chest. "Don't hold your breath. I've got her locked down. I'm not leaving even a sliver of room for competition."
Scarlett’s face immediately flushed a violent shade of red. Mortified, she snapped, "Alright, enough! Both of you, stop talking nonsense! Just... be careful out there, Stellan."
As she spoke, her thoughts drifted to Talia Gray. Talia still worked at Heath’s company, completely oblivious to the fact that her boss had tried to murder her best friend.
A knot of worry tightened in Scarlett’s stomach. "Stellan... I can't contact Talia right now. She must be absolutely devastated thinking we're dead. And the fact that she's still working for Heath every day... I'm really worried about her."
Knowing exactly what she was anxious about, Stellan gently cut in. "You don't need to worry about her safety. She’s Heath’s cousin, after all. So far, he hasn't shown any signs of turning on her. She is incredibly heartbroken, though. She really believes you're gone. She's called me crying in the middle of the night a few times, but my hands are tied. I can't tell her the truth. But the good news is, she’s dating Chatwin Wyatt now, and he’s been right by her side the whole time. So, she's in good hands."
Hearing that, Scarlett finally let out a sigh of relief. "Okay... With her being related to Heath, I'm afraid telling her the truth right now would just break her. We’ll just have to keep it a secret a little longer. Julian and I won't be in hiding forever. When the time is right, we’ll come back from the dead and catch them all completely off guard."
After saying their goodbyes, Scarlett ended the call.
