If he didn't want to talk about it, she wasn't going to pry.
"Yardley, if you don't want to talk about it, I won't ask," Sylvia said, slipping into a gentle, understanding tone. "Since AM is out, why don't you give my contact a shot? This client is incredibly powerful, and I promise you, all he wants is to invest and collect his dividends. He won't interfere with the Flynn Group's operations."
Yardley stared at her, the pieces already clicking into place in his mind.
"This client you're talking about... it isn't Kane, is it?"
A brief flash of panic crossed Sylvia's eyes before she offered an awkward smile.
"Nothing gets past you, does it, Yardley?"
"Since you guessed it, I might as well tell you the truth. Yes, it's Kane."
Yardley's expression hardened instantly. He waved a hand dismissively.
"If it's him, the answer is no."
It was as if the alcohol had instantly evaporated from his system. He stood up sharply from the sofa. "Kane's money comes from shady sources. Hell, most of it is dirty. If I take his investment, I'm basically getting into bed with a criminal!"
"If he ever goes down, the Flynn Group will be dragged right down with him."
Sylvia jumped up and grabbed his arm.
"Yardley, Kane isn't going to go down!"
"Most of his money has already been washed through legitimate channels. Have you heard of Heath Sheridan?"
Yardley paused, looking down at her.
"Heath Sheridan? The guy who runs that apparel company?"
