"Are your legs asleep?"
Julian's voice was low and lazy, his warm breath intentionally or unintentionally brushing against Scarlett's ear, sending a sudden shiver down her spine.
She instinctively tried to stand, but her legs were completely numb. Unable to support her own weight, she had no choice but to stay put.
The position was undeniably intimate. Combined with the dim lighting of the study, the atmosphere grew heavy with unspoken tension.
Scarlett felt incredibly flustered, but Julian seemed perfectly at ease. He lowered his head, his large, warm hand coming to rest on her thigh. Before she could even process the touch, he began to gently massage the muscles. His movements were slow, soothing, and expertly applied.
However, her inner thigh had always been a sensitive spot. At his touch, she almost let out a gasp. Panicking, she quickly grabbed his hand. "Don't. I can do it myself."
She closed her eyes, her heart racing. "Just give me another minute. Once the blood flow comes back, I should be fine."
Julian tactfully withdrew his hand, a hint of a smile in his voice. "Alright. Take your time. We have all night."
Noticing her hair was a bit messy, he reached out to tuck a stray lock behind her ear. The simple, tender gesture only made her more self-conscious, and she didn't dare meet his gaze.
He understood. Her reaction wasn't just shyness; she simply wasn't ready to dive headfirst into a new relationship. She was still reeling from the shock of her life being turned upside down. Human connection relied on a certain chemistry, and when the timing wasn't right, rushing it would only ruin things.
