Sylvia's mocking tone made Veronica's expression instantly darken.
She put her hands on her hips, furious.
"I was seriously trying to help him! Marrying me would solidify his position and let him get the upper hand against Scarlett. It's a win-win!"
Sylvia laughed even harder, draping an arm over Veronica's shoulder.
"Can't you tell he's just not into you at all?"
"Seriously, Veronica, you can't force these things. I didn't want to say anything, but you're a bit out of touch with reality. As your friend, let me remind you that you can't force a connection that isn't there."
"Even if he did need a marriage to bounce back, he wouldn't marry you. It would be..."
Sylvia trailed off, looking down coyly as a blush crept across her cheeks.
Seeing her expression, Veronica instantly understood the implication and scoffed.
"Who? Don't tell me it's you."
Veronica burst into a fit of laughter. "Sylvia, you're the one dreaming of things completely out of your league. You really think he'd marry a woman who had a kid with a cartel boss?"
Sylvia's face dropped immediately.
Staring at Veronica, hearing the biting sarcasm, she finally realized just how fake their so-called friendship actually was.
"So, you've been looking down on me this entire time, haven't you?" she asked sharply.
Veronica sneered, no longer bothering to hide it.
"I wouldn't have brought it up if you hadn't started it."
"Sylvia, you're the one who needs a reality check."
