Julian’s teasing had briefly made Elara self-conscious, worried that Scarlett might judge her. But hearing Scarlett’s heartfelt validation, Elara let out a booming, joyful laugh and patted her chest proudly.
"Exactly! Anyone who wants to be a prim and proper lady can go right ahead! Personally, I’d rather be a badass."
"I knew you and your mother would get it, Scarlett! You don’t think I’m too much at all, right?"
Scarlett nodded earnestly. "Of course not. I think discovering who you truly are is the most important part of life. We shouldn't bind ourselves to meaningless rules. As long as we aren't breaking the law, living freely and authentically is the best way to live."
Scarlett was entirely sincere, passionately sharing her worldview.
But she didn't anticipate Elara’s reaction. With a delighted grin, Elara gave Scarlett a gentle push, sending her tumbling right into Julian’s lap.
"You are absolutely right!"
"So, you two need to stop tiptoeing around each other! Say what you want to say, do what you want to do."
"Trust me, your relationship has my full blessing, and it's about to be legally binding. There’s no need to hold back on anything."
Scarlett had only meant to reassure her future mother-in-law.
She hadn't expected to be thrust straight into Julian's arms. Startled, she immediately tried to scramble back to her feet.
But Julian’s arms circled around her waist, pulling her flush against him.
She placed her hands on his chest to push away, but her eyes fell on the heavy bandages wrapping his right arm. Her heart softened, and she let herself sink against him instead.
