"Just leave, Yardley."
"We went our separate ways a long time ago. Don't come looking for me anymore. I don't want to say another word to you."
She turned on her heel and started walking away.
He stood behind her, his hands curling into tight fists. Staring at her retreating figure, his voice dropped into a low, hoarse shout.
"Don't you think you're taking this way too far?"
"Don't think I don't know that all of this was a trap set by you and Julian!"
"You went after my mother, my sister, and now you've backed Sylvia into a corner where she has absolutely nothing left! What's next? Is it my turn?"
"Just say it! What are you planning to do to me? What are you going to do to Flynn Group? At least have the decency to tell me so I know what's coming!"
His voice echoed loudly down the hall.
She stopped walking. Slowly, she turned back around to look at him, her expression eerily calm.
"You're wrong."
"From the very beginning, I never set out to target anyone. Your mother, your sister, and Sylvia—they destroyed their own lives. They burned their own bridges because of who they are as people, not because I laid some elaborate trap."
"As for you and Flynn Group, I haven't done a single thing to ruin you. So, if your empire crumbles in the future, it'll be your own doing. It has nothing to do with me."
He let out a bitter, self-deprecating laugh, completely at a loss for words.
He watched her quietly, feeling more and more like the woman who used to bend to his every whim had become an impenetrable fortress.
She looked so victorious, so completely in control, as if she held all the cards.
But didn't she realize that the only reason she had gotten away with any of this was because he had been lenient? Because he couldn't bear to hurt her?
If he actually hardened his heart, did she really think she could stand there and talk to him with such unwavering confidence?
And now she was already planning to remarry. Getting her license with Julian.
Did she really think no one else in the world wanted him?
