He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 90

Yardley closed his eyes, resting briefly in his office before preparing to head home for what he assumed would be a pleasant dinner with Scarlett.

Just as he was grabbing his coat, his phone buzzed. It was Leah. The moment he answered, her panicked voice blared through the speaker.

"Mr. Flynn! It's a disaster! All six bodyguards are unconscious on the driveway, and she's gone!"

The veins in Yardley's temples throbbed violently.

"What did you just say?! I'm coming back right now!"

Without another word, Yardley stormed out of his office.

Sylvia's chronic heart condition had flared up from the stress, landing her right back in the hospital. It had taken several days of bed rest for her to finally regain some semblance of strength.

The very first thing she did upon waking up was hire those thugs to brutally assault Talia.

She had decided to start with Scarlett's inner circle, determined to teach her a terrifying lesson.

Staring at the photo of Talia's battered, bloody face, Sylvia felt a twisted, vindictive satisfaction wash over her.

She was practically giggling into her blankets when Corinne suddenly walked into the room, carrying a thermos of chicken soup.

Startled, Sylvia quickly locked her phone, instantly slipping back into her usual fragile, pitiful persona.

"Aunt Corinne..." she whispered weakly, her eyes welling up with tears on command.

Seeing her state, Corinne's heart broke. She rushed over and pulled Sylvia into a tight, comforting embrace.

"Oh, Sylvia, thank goodness you're alright! You scared me half to death! I was so terrified I'd lose you!"

Sylvia let the tears flow freely. "Scarlett is just so vicious. She... she's trying to completely destroy Yardley and me! She's taking it too far!"

"All Yardley did was sit by my side while I was giving birth. Is that really such an unforgivable crime? How could she drag our names through the mud like this?!"

Sylvia's tears instantly intensified into full-blown hysterics. "Dad! No! I didn't do anything! Why do you always take an outsider's side?! You don't even know the whole story, and you're already blaming me!"

"Exactly! How could this possibly be Sylvia's fault? She literally just gave birth!" Corinne exploded, planting her hands on her hips and glaring fiercely at Silas. "If you don't know how to speak to her properly, Silas, then keep your mouth shut!"

Silas ignored her entirely. His face remained stony as he walked over to a nearby chair, pulled out his phone, and methodically reviewed the trending articles, familiarizing himself with the brutal reality of the situation.

With Corinne and Gwen flanking her on either side, showering her with comfort, Sylvia's hysterics eventually died down.

Just as the room began to quiet, Clarissa Flynn appeared in the doorway. She had one hand casually tucked into her pocket and carried absolutely nothing in the other. Her expression was completely bored.

Seeing Clarissa show up without a single gift, Corinne's temper flared again. "Clarissa Flynn! You come to visit Sylvia in the hospital, and you don't even have the decency to bring her a gift?!"

Clarissa cast a withering, side-long glance at Corinne. "She practically dragged the Flynn family's entire reputation through a sewer, and you expect me to bring her a present? Has she completely lost her mind?"
