Scarlett looked at Yardley and let out a cold, disbelieving laugh.
"Yardley, are you a child?"
Yardley masked his humiliation with a deadpan stare, his voice dripping with ice.
"City Hall isn't a private club. It's open to the public."
"If you can get a license today, so can we. Come on, Veronica. Let's go in."
With a glacial expression, Yardley grabbed Veronica's hand right in front of Scarlett and marched toward the entrance, determined to beat them inside.
Scarlett rolled her eyes and turned to Julian.
"How about we grab a coffee across the street and let them finish up first?"
"This is one of the best days of my life. I'm not going to let a couple of miserable people ruin the memory of it."
Julian was in total agreement. Smiling, he took her hand and led her away from the entrance, heading toward the café across the street.

Meanwhile, Sylvia was hiding in the shadows near the building, her eyes frantically scanning the crowds for Scarlett and Julian.
She had been waiting for a long time, only to spot Yardley and Veronica walking arm-in-arm toward the doors instead.
Staring at their intertwined hands, Sylvia's eyes widened in horror. The blood roared in her ears like a jet engine.
Without a second thought, she burst out of the shadows and threw herself into their path.
"Yardley... are you... are you here to get married?"
Sylvia slapped her hands over her mouth, trembling violently as she stared at them in utter disbelief.
Seeing Sylvia, a smug thrill flickered in Veronica's eyes.
She had always known Sylvia was obsessed with Yardley. This was the perfect opportunity to publicly humiliate her and crush those delusions permanently, ensuring she'd never try to interfere in their marriage.
